It's affordable to repair: Although aluminum is strong, there may be times when it sustains some damage. It holds its value: Because aluminum boats have a long life, they do a good job at holding their value. This means your boat's resale value is likely to be close to what you initially paid for it.
Fiberglass boats tend to weigh more, so they generally have better seakeeping abilities and more stability than aluminum boats. Their higher weight means fiberglass boats don't get easily buffeted by the wind, so they tend to drift slower and more predictably (a trait important to anglers, in particular).
Aluminum Can Do Well in Salt and FreshwaterWhen not in contact with other metals, aluminum can do quite well in both fresh and saltwater, needing only bottom paint for aluminum boats to prevent fouling.
Price for 10 Popular Aluminum Boats
| Aluminum Multi-Species Boat | Base Cost (boat, trailer and motor) |
|---|
| Alumacraft Classic 165 CS | $17,299 |
| Alumacraft Voyageur 175 Sport | $23,399 |
| Crestliner 1750 Super Hawk | $34,271 |
| Crestliner 1750 Fish Hawk | $29,251 |
Conclusion: Crestliner boats have a long history and a good reputation, but there have been issues over the years. Most Crestliner owners are happy with their purchase and would recommend the boats. Some boaters are fiercely loyal to the Crestliner brand, while some vow to never buy one.
Aluminum boats are either riveted together, or they are welded together. These boats could develop small leaks around the rivets, and your floors can end up rotting out over time.
The Crestliner 1850 is not in the same league as the Alumacraft and Lund. It's shorter, shallower and lighter. And it's ride and overall quality is better than the Lund or Crestliner's comparable models. It's fit and finish.is a bit less than the Lund and Crestliner.
Top Aluminum Boat Manufacturers and Companies in the USA
| Company | Annual Sales |
|---|
| 1. | Brunswick Corp. | $4 Bil |
| 2. | Correct Craft | $450 Mil |
| 3. | Smoker Craft, Inc. | $118 Mil |
| 4. | Alumacraft Boat Co. | $67 Mil |
Both brands are nice and good options in aluminum boats. Our Lund aged better with our use than the Crestliner over the 8 seasons we owned it. It's also my opinion that Lunds hull designs are better handling in big water/rough water.
Lund is a much nicer boat but also comes with a higher price tag, they do hold their value tho. Trackers are not bad boats for the money but if you look at them close you can really tell they are not the highest quality boat. Trackers are welded and lunds are riveted.
Pro V's have thicker aluminum where it counts, back then I think they were wider, they ride better, have more storage, more live/bait wells, more of lots of ammenities, better resale and the big thing thing, guy's (like I have several times in the past and God willing will probably do again), are goofy enough to pay

A major bass boat manufacturer is selling a $100,000 bass boat. It is really unfathomable if you think about it. The 6 figure boat is the Ranger Z521L ICON. This $100,000 boat “celebrates” 50 years of production for the legendary boat maker.
You see, Bass boats are for calm waters, typically speaking. High waves and rough seas are not the intended conditions for a Bass boat's hull. So, you really have to know how to handle your boat to get it to safety in that kind of inclement weather.
A new APBA Kilo speed record was established on April 22, 2005, by an Allison XB-2002 bass boat. It was driven by David Shook at an APBA event at Crescent City, Florida and reached a record speed of 116.594 MPH.
Warning: Never apply a coprous paint (any bottom paint including copper as the anti-fouling agent) to an aluminum boat. Any anti-fouling paint applied to an aluminum boat should be marked aluminum-safe, or it can set up a galvanic bath that will literally eat your boat alive, by causing the metal to corrode away.
Aluminum is good in both coastal and inland watersUse bottom paint to keep your boat clean. But if you want to play it safe, a protective painting that uses an electrical barrier to keep water from aluminum is good for boats in both types of water.
For the most part, freshwater boats can be used in saltwater. However, boat owners need to be aware of the increased potential for corrosion. Saltwater boats are designed to handle the more rigorous conditions that come with saltwater, so they should be fine to handle freshwater.

Aluminum is highly resistant to weathering, including many industrial and harsh atmospheres that often corrode other metals. Even at substantial distances from the ocean, structures are susceptible to corrosion from salt.
There are five ways to protect your boat against corrosion including:
- Isolate corroding metal from seawater by painting or coating.
- Change potential of metal by introducing sacrificial anode.
- Making metal passive by using corrosion inhibitors.
- Change the pH of local environment by chemical dosing.
Lowe makes a good boat. Better than a tracker or a G3. They do not make boats that remind me of big water boats intended to be smashing waves day in and day out. Warranty is solid as well and they have a reputation of honoring there warranties.
Clear coating involves the application of a protective layer over the surface of the aluminum. Some aluminum products feature an invisible clear coat layer that protects the metal from the environment. Once applied, the aluminum itself is never exposed to its surrounding environment, thus protecting it from corrosion.
