Even though you can theoretically get cable or fibre broadband without line rental, it can be hard to find a provider actually offering broadband without a landline. Currently, Virgin Media is the only major ISP that lets you sign up for broadband without a phone line.BT offers exclusive, personalised deals to existing customers, which generally allow you to add extras to your existing package for free or at a much lower cost. By signing up for multiple services from the same provider, you'll generally save cash and get a single bill that's easier to keep track of.

Line rental is the charge you have to pay for your phone line. In most cases, you need an active phone line to get standard broadband along copper phone wires, or fibre broadband into your home. For most people this means using a network that's owned and operated by Openreach, part of the BT group.
In order to get broadband without line rental, you'll need to have access to full-fibre broadband or cable broadband. So while fibre broadband is widely available, it still requires a telephone line to connect your home to the fibre cabinet, so the chances of getting broadband without a phone line are slim.
Almost all broadband packages include line rental, and you can usually upgrade to a better home phone package too - to include anytime calls, for example. Then again, if you're really not a fan of line rental, you can always grab a landline-free, broadband-only package…
Typical costs: Basic phone service that includes unlimited local calls generally cost $15-$30 per month, depending on additional features. For example, AT&T[1] charges $23 for a home residential line that includes a few additional basic features such as caller ID, call waiting and voicemail.
