A rooster is a male chicken and a hen is a female chicken. A cockerel is a young rooster who is less than one year of age.
Male chicks are killed for two reasons: they cannot lay eggs and they are not suitable for chicken-meat production. Layer hens are bred to produce eggs whereas meat chickens are bred to grow large breast muscle and legs.
The cloaca, or vent, of the male and female touch and sperm are exchanged. It's called a “cloacal kiss†and requires a bit of avian gymnastics for both birds to position themselves so their cloacas meet. The other is to transfer sperm to a hen. A hen doesn't need to mate every day in order to lay fertile eggs.
A lot of people actually do eat roosters. It is not common in American homes for people to eat roosters. Unless, of course, they are raising their own meat. But in western countries, people don't eat rooster meat because they are less economical to raise than hens.

Fowl means any larger domestic bird such as a domesticated chicken, duck, goose, guinea fowl, peafowl, peacock, turkey, dove, pigeon, game bird, or similar bird. Fowl means chickens, geese, ducks, turkeys, squabs, emus, ostriches, or similar feathered animals kept and raised as farm or livestock animals.
The main difference between a fowl and chicken is that fowl is a superorder of birds and chickens are domesticated fowls. For example, chickens are domesticated birds that are kept for eggs or meat. A fowl can be any kind of bird, several domesticated or wild gallinaceous birds.
Scientists believe the red jungle fowl, Gallus gallus, is the most likely progenitor of the modern chicken, although research suggests that the domestic chicken's yellow skin is a trait inherited from the gray jungle fowl, Gallus sonneratii. So, it's more than likely that today's chicken has multiple ancestors.

“Chickens are the closest living relative to Tyrannosaurus rex.†“Chickens are directly descended from T.rex.â€
Chickens can fly (just not very far). Depending on the breed, chickens will reach heights of about 10 feet and can span distances of just forty or fifty feet. The longest recorded flight of a modern chicken lasted 13 seconds for a distance of just over three hundred feet.
Chickens do not have nipples, no. They do have breasts, but they do not have mammary glands and are not able to produce milk as mammals do. This applies to all birds, as birds are of a different order to mammals. Do Chickens Have One or Two Breasts?
Hen AppearanceAlthough hens do have combs and wattles, they are nowhere near as large and impressive as the roosters. The color of their feathers is usually more subdued than the boys too.
The hen does not completely change into a rooster, however. This transition is limited to making the bird phenotypically male, meaning that although the hen will develop physical characteristics that will make her look male, she will remain genetically female.
