What is required for Black Sails' VFX? “It has to be something that the audience is looking at it and is not realizing there are visual effects. The way we do that is, we have built full-scale ships. They don't sit in the water, they sit on a cement platform.
Probably not, it's a pirate show. It's beautifully shot though, so if you appreciate good visuals it could be good. It's fitting considering that Black Sails is a prequel to the iconic Treasure Island, that the series in turn pays many homages and parallels to characters and tales of classical literature.
And after a huge fight scene where, against all odds, the pirates actually won the battle against Woodes Rogers (Luke Roberts) and by proxy England itself, the true climax came when Flint and Silver had a war of words on the island.
Starz just announced that the fourth season of its original series Black Sails will be its last. The 10-episode Season 4 of the Treasure Island prequel returns in 2017 with its pirates at war in the West Indies.
Skeleton Island is an isolated and uncharted island. There is a smaller island to the east of the island, separated by a narrow strait. The terrain on the main island is mountainous, and covered in dense forest. There is at least one river on the island, as well as caves.
Jim is so surprised by the blow that he accidentally squeezes the trigger of his two loaded pistols, killing Hands.

Barely mentioned by Robert Louis Stevenson, Max (un-named in the book) is Silver's wife, a “negress” of uncommon intelligence, who is supposed to sell their tavern and rendezvous with Silver in the Caribbean after he secures Flint's treasure.
Although, in the book he has lost his leg up to his hip and claims it happened while in the Royal Navy. In the season three finale, Silver is given the name Long John Silver by Billy Bones, a reference to his threat to those who cross him that he has a long memory.
Flint is a fictional 18th-century pirate captain who features in a number of novels, television series, and films. The original character was created by the Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson (1850–1894).
Long John Silver is a fictional character and the main antagonist in the novel Treasure Island (1883) by Robert Louis Stevenson. The most colourful and complex character in the book, he continues to appear in popular culture.
Billy Bones (Tom Hopper) recently made his return to Starz's “Black Sails” after disappearing into the murky ocean on Season 1. He ended up being captured and tortured by the British Navy. But, we also learned that he made a deal for his release, one in which he promised to capture and bring Flint to them.
Madi is the daughter of Mr. Scott and the Maroon Queen, destined to succeed as leader of the Maroon Island community of former slaves. She becomes the lover of Silver. At the end of the series, she survives at the final battle and is reunited with her mother and Silver.
Most surprising of all, James Flint gets a happy ending with his long lost love Thomas. Depending on how you view it, Flint either finds redemption or he's killed by Silver on Skeleton Island, while the Thomas story is another one of John Silver's lies.
While a captive, Max is routinely beaten and raped by Vane's men. After some time, Vane asks her why she refused Eleanor's protection.
The simple answer is that many sails are now made with carbon fibers—the strongest load-carrying material in sails—and carbon is black. If some sails seem even blacker to you than they did a few years ago, you may be noticing North's 3Di sails, a product that has gained market share over the last half dozen years.
We also know from Treasure Island that Long John Silver won't perish at the hands of the Brits. In fact, Black Sails is setting up neatly to line up with the events in the famous children's book. The treasure has already been buried and Flint was not crazy about telling Billy Bones or others the hiding place this week.
We find out from the story that Long John was the quartermaster of Captain Flint. The story isn't clear on exactly when Silver lost his leg but it was in battle and he lost it to an explosive cannon shot which not only took off his leg but blinded another pirate known in the story as "Blind Pew".
As close to death as Flint may have seemed at times, Black Sails' function as a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island demanded Flint live. He died alone, some indeterminate period of time after the exciting stuff happened, and he died in a very lonely, sad place.
He loses his title of Governor and is finally defeated by Jack Rackham, James Flint and Long John Silver.
