She begins to have psychotic episodes and delusional symptoms and Freddie realizes that Effy has developed psychotic depression. She attempts suicide but Freddie, foreseeing this, saves her and she is taken to hospital and later, institutionalized.

In episode nine, Jal appears at Sid's dinner party, and reveals that she is pregnant, and plans to have an abortion. Jal got two As and a C in her A-levels. In the series 2 finale, Jal reveals that she had an abortion.
Katie then seems to spend the majority of her time at the psychiatric hospital Effy is being kept in following her suicide attempt. Along with Pandora, they cheer her up with talking and a song Pandora has written.
In season 7, Naomi's character has changed significantly. However, her brush with success is marred when she is diagnosed with cancer, which leads to her becoming quiet and frail, and ultimately kills her, making her the fourth major Skins character to die in the show's seven seasons.
Although she apologises, she tells Tony she cannot wait for him and the two officially end their relationship. Before leaving Tony gives her an early birthday gift, and Michelle invites him along on her birthday camping trip, to which he declines.
The closing scene for most characters ends with them having a great time at the party, except for Cook as he has headed outside, where he spots a figure observing Freddie's house and follows it, assuming it to be John Foster. Cook breaks into John's basement where he finds Freddie's blood-stained clothes.

In "Finale", Cook and Effy are in self-imposed exile from the gang; they've gone to stay with Cook's father. They are found by JJ and Freddie, who try to bring them back, but soon realise that Cook is beginning to fall in love with Effy.
Luca Giuseppe "Luke" Pasqualino (born 19 February 1990) is a British actor, known for his portrayal of Freddie McClair in the television series Skins and d'Artagnan in the television series The Musketeers. From 2016–17, he played Elvis Harte in another BBC show Our Girl.
On her blog she reveals that her parents had her see a counselor for withholding speech, but that proved ineffective. After Tony's life-threatening accident in the finale of the first series, Effy begins speaking again.
Tony fondly watches her leave and pretends to be a sleeping Effy when their parents check on up them. When they leave, he tries to call his friends but they are all ignoring him in favor of Michelle. Fed up with being alone, Tony goes out into town. Meanwhile, Effy goes to a party with her talkative friend, Julie.
After Effy attempted suicide, Cook, despite his own feeling for Effy, tells Freddie not to give up on her. In "Effy", she runs into Cook and after an argument, Cook tells her that he would redo the last two years all over again, and that he still loves her. Effy tells him to piss off and leaves.

They take Effy to Norman's but after being left alone, Effy attempts suicide by slitting her wrists, only for Freddie to find her and take her to hospital.
Foster approaches him and informs Freddie that Effy means much more to him, and says that "she really loves [him]" and "that's why [he] can't let [him] go". Dr. Foster then proceeds to brutally murder Freddie with a baseball bat. As it is later revealed in Series 7, Cook killed Foster avenging Freddie's death.

In 2007, at the age of 14 and with no acting experience, Scodelario was cast in the first series of Skins as Effy Stonem. At the auditions, Scodelario became discouraged as she felt she was too young, but a producer told her to stay and she was asked to read for the part.
