A “scientific study” has concluded that a horse cannot comfortably carry more than 10 percent of its own weight. This would mean 80 percent of the people riding horses today are too fat! According to The US Cavalry Manual of Horse Management (1941) a horse should not carry more than 20 percent of its own weight.
According to Guinness World Records, Big Jake broke the record for the world's tallest living horse when he was measured in 2010, and he still held that record as of 2018. As of 2013, Big Jake was retired and lived at Smokey Hollow Farm, near Poynette, Wisconsin.
Clydesdale horses aren't too big to ride. Although Clydesdales are huge horses primarily bred to pull, they make excellent riding horses. They are comfortable, have an easy-going temperament, and are willing to work.

French-bred Percherons are born black and turn gray as they mature; no other color is allowed in the registry. Although white markings are permitted, excess white is frowned upon.
Percherons horses are a versatile draft breed that originated in France; they make exceptional riding horses and are great for pulling wagons and carriages. Percherons are alert and willing learners with a calm temperament.
Today, the Clydesdale stands 162 to 183 cm (16.0 to 18.0 h) high and weighs 820 to 910 kg (1800 to 2000 lb). Some mature males are larger, standing taller than 183 cm and weighing up to 1000 kg (2200 lb).
Both Shires and Clydesdales are large, with strong, muscular builds and have feathers on their legs. However, Shires tend to have bigger, broader builds, whereas Clydesdales tend to be slightly smaller, with a more refined build.
Like many heavy draft horses, Clydesdales have a horse temperament that is generally described as being “coldblooded.” This means they tend to be very calm, collected, and gentle in their interactions with people.
They don't have short tails. They have amputated tailbones. Some draft horse owners value the fashion of amputated tails over the wellbeing of the horses.
The average Clydesdale can carry up to a maximum of 350 pounds, but remember that every horse has different capabilities.
Well-Known Member. Their tails are cut very short but they're not docked.
One of the most popular colors for Clydesdales is bay or brown. Clydesdales also can be black, sorrel, or Roan (White hair scattered throughout the coat. White legs are common, but black legs are often found. White spots can occur on the body.
They can range from 3.5-at least 25 depending on the type and model but that's not important. That wee little engine would never be able to over power a horse, in some of them they can't even over power a human, as at maximum efficiency put out about 5 horse power.
The Clydesdale averages 17 to 18 hands (68 to 72 inches [173 to 183 cm]) tall and 2,000 pounds (900 kg) in weight.
Thanks for the A2A. Horses can run between 27 and 40 miles per hour, depending on diet and general health. Racehorses have been clocked at 44 miles per hour. I don't know exactly how fast a Shire horse can run, but they can probably run about 35 to 40 miles per hour if they are in a hurry.
Gentle giants: Could the Shire horse be extinct in 10 years? One hundred years ago, there were a million Shire horses working the land in Britain. Today, there are fewer than 3,000.
You should begin breaking in or training a young horse at the age of two and a half or three years. A good method is to bring him into the stable and tie him up for 3 or 4, thus letting you get used to each other.
Like, Can-Pull-a-Semi-Truck Strong. A pair of Shires once pulled 50 tons, or the equivalent of a semi truck, plus an additional 20,000 pounds. A photograph from 1940 shows draft horses hauling a massive load of logs.
Horses can behave aggressively – pin back their ears, kick, bite, or charge – to protect their foals, maintain their position within the herd, defend themselves, and compete sexually.
