No person, during the summer season, shall carry an alcoholic beverage in an open container or consume any alcoholic beverage on the streets or other public areas of the Town. No person shall possess an alcoholic beverage on the beach during the summer season. Having alcoholic beverages in public is a civil violation.
Bethany Beach, Fenwick Island, the guarded ocean beaches at two coastal Delaware State Parks and Dewey Beach already ban smoking. South Bethany Beach still allows it and Lewes, on Delaware Bay, allows smoking on the beach but not in municipal parks.

Dewey BeachParking is free Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 5-11 p.m. at permit and metered spaces. Parking permit costs range from $10 for a one-day use on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday or up to $200 for a seasonal pass. They can be purchased at Dewey Beach Town Hall at 105 Rodney Avenue.
there are no public rest rooms near the beaches. Not good when you travel with young children. At least put in a portable potty.
The majority of parking spaces in Dewey Beach are permit parking, identified with signs marked ZONE 4012. To park here, you must either display a seasonal permit, or pay through Park Mobile or a kiosk. There is a 4-hour minimum time to park in this zone.
Dewey Beach is a great party town and it's definitely a wild scene for the young people. But it also has a lot of great stuff that the more mature crowd can enjoy."
rehoboth is much more sophisticated. & has a boardwalk. lovely independent shops & restaurants. dewey is known as a "party town" for college-age types, but the northern residential area (north of houston street) is much quieter, and FULL of families.
The Town of Dewey Beach has closed beach access due to tar balls. The recent oil spill is leaving traces up and down the Delaware beaches. Now Dewey beach has closed their beach. Rehoboth beach is still open.

Is Dewey Beach, DE Safe? The F grade means the rate of crime is much higher than the average US city. Dewey Beach is in the 4th percentile for safety, meaning 96% of cities are safer and 4% of cities are more dangerous.
Laying on a small strip of land just one mile long and only two blocks wide, the town of Dewey Beach, at just 0.3 square miles is a small town with a big (busy) heart! A year-round population of about 300, it is not uncommon for 30,000 to visit the town during summer weekends.
The City of Rehoboth Beach currently is generally following Governor John Carney's state covid-19 safety guidelines, which have eliminated social distancing requirements and removed Delaware's mask mandate. Masks are not required in outdoor locations, including on the beach and boardwalk.
The Rehoboth beach and boardwalk will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. for beach activities including exercising, sunbathing and swimming. Ocean City has a larger selection of accommodations, more amusements, wider beaches, and longer boardwalk, etc. It's a much bigger resort area with block after block of hotels & condos. Rehoboth has just a few hotels, more traditional cottages and vacation rentals, some just a short walk from the ocean.
Rehoboth Beach has joined Ocean City, Lewes and other municipalities by including e-cigarettes in smoking bans on the beach and boardwalk. The city's commissioners limited smoking in city parks, the boardwalk, bandstand and beach to designated areas last summer.
In Ocean City, we take laws related to alcohol consumption very seriously. Drinking alcoholic beverages in public is prohibited. This includes on any street, avenue, alleyway, sidewalk, beach, parking lot and vehicle in any of these areas. Sleeping on the beach also is not allowed between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

PROS: (1) super chill beach with very few people (2) lots of natural beauty, including birds, crabs, dolphins, etc. (3) calm and shallow water, great for kids to swim in. (4) close to Lewes, a very nice beach town with great restaurants and shopping.
