Dormant volcanoes have not erupted for a very long time but may erupt at a future time. Extinct volcanoes are not expected to erupt in the future. Inside an active volcano is a chamber in which molten rock, called magma, collects.
Taal volcano is in a caldera system located in southern Luzon island and is one of the most active volcanoes in the Philippines. It has produced around 35 recorded eruptions since 3,580 BCE, ranging from VEI 1 to 6, with the majority of eruptions being a VEI 2.
There are about 300 volcanoes in the Philippines. Twenty-two (22) of these are active while the larger percentage remains dormant as of the record. The majority of the active volcanoes are located in the island of Luzon. The six most active volcanoes are Mayon, Hibok-Hibok, Pinatubo, Taal, Kanlaon and Bulusan.
Hibok-Hibok volcano (also known as Catarman volcano) is the youngest and the only historically active volcano on Camiguin Island, which is located 9 km off the north coast of Mindanao Island, Philippines.
Makiling: "crooked" or "bent"
As for the word "Makiling", it has been noted that the mountain rises from Laguna de Bay "to a rugged top and breaks into irregular hills southward, thus 'leaning' or 'uneven. By this etymology, the mountain would have been named after the bamboo and the lady named after the mountain.Mayon, located in the Philippines, is a highly active stratovolcano with recorded historical eruptions dating back to 1616. The most recent eruptive episode began in early January 2018 that consisted of phreatic explosions, steam-and-ash plumes, lava fountaining, and pyroclastic flows (BGVN 43:04). All eyes are on the rumbling Mount Mayon, a perfectly cone-shaped volcano that could spew its dangerous contents at any moment.

Pre-caldera eruptions formed basaltic to basaltic-andesitic volcanoes, including the extinct Talim Island and Mount Sembrano stratovolcanoes located on opposite sides of the current caldera. The caldera has formed during at least 2 major explosive eruptions about 1 million and 27,000-29,000 years ago. Mount Canlaon, also called Canlaon Volcano, active volcano, north-central portion of the island of Negros, Philippines. It lies about 20 miles (32 km) southeast of Bacolod.
