Aide-de-camp, (French: “camp assistantâ€), an officer on the personal staff of a general, admiral, or other high-ranking commander who acts as his confidential secretary in routine matters.
An adjutant general officer is responsible for providing personnel support that affects Soldiers' overall welfare and well-being, while assisting commanders by accounting for and keeping Soldiers combat-ready.
On 17 June, Congress selected Horatio Gates, a former officer in the British Army, to become the first Adjutant General of the Army with the commission of brigadier general.
