A: The Atlantic Ocean is indeed free — but in New Jersey, free stops on dry sand. If you want to hit the Jersey Daily Double, you can visit towns like Belmar that will charge you $2 an hour to park plus $8 per beach badge for those over the age of 16.
Beach Badges: Required on all beaches beginning in June for anyone 12 years of age or older. All badges may be purchased at the beach badge booth in Sunset Park starting in June. Daily and weekly badges may be purchased from the Beach Badge Checker on the beach. Only cash or checks are accepted.

Nearly every New Jersey beach makes it illegal to bring open containers – or any alcohol – to the beach. With the exception of some of the beaches at Sandy Hook, you cannot drink on the beach at the Jersey Shore. If you are under 21, this can even lead to citations for underage drinking.
Ventnor City boasts the only non-commercial Boardwalk on Absecon Island. It is also one of the Most well maintained boardwalks in NJ. The beach is also well maintained and clean. My wife and I have come to Ventnor many many times and four years ago started a search for a small beach house.
Certain outdoor property within Atlantic City has been deemed an “open container area” by the measure. That includes portions of the beach, boardwalk, and other areas within the city's tourism district where pedestrians are permitted to carry and consume open containers of alcoholic beverages.

Lifeguard races, volley ball, bocce ball and surf tournaments all bring people to the beach of Cape May County. Please don't swim after hours and follow all beach rules for your safety and enjoyment of everyone. Bay beaches do not have lifeguards and can also be dangerous.
Cape May's promenade runs parallel to Beach Avenue and stretches for nearly two miles, taking you on a scenic walk or run past Cape May's beaches. Though it's sometimes referred to as a boardwalk, our promenade is actually paved (the last wooden boardwalk was destroyed in the 1962 nor'easter).
