Abbey Road is the oldest, purpose-built recording studio in the world, but is best known to most people for being the creative base for The Beatles. In the late 1950s, Studio Two became the centre for British rock and roll music. It is where the Fab Four recorded almost all of their music between 1962 and 1970.

The sessions were engineered by the legendary Keith Grant, who had over 50 film credits to his name after starting his carrier in the 1960s working with acts like The Beatles, David Bowie, Eric Clapton, The Eagles, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Queen, The Who, the list goes on. Yes a legend indeed.
Although Let It Be may have been their last release chronologically, Abbey Road was actually the final album that they recorded, and on the 11th of August 1969, John Lennon turned in his last days work with the four-piece on the track 'Oh!Darling'.

The Beatles were an English rock band from Liverpool who recorded hundreds of songs during their career. The group's "main catalogue"—songs released between 1962 and 1970—consists of 213 songs (four of which exist in different versions): 188 originals and 25 covers.
On January 18, 1964, “I Want To Hold Your Hand†debuted on the Hot 100 Singles Chart at #45. When it hit #1 on Feb. 1, it ended up staying at the top for seven weeks. Here's a clip of their performance on The Ed Sullivan Show eight days later on February 9, 1964.

The Beatles recorded the bulk of their debut album, 'Please Please Me,' in a single daylong studio session.
On this day The Beatles recorded 10 songs of their debut album Please Please Me, at EMI's Abbey Road Studios in London. Three sessions took place during the course of the day, with recording finishing at 10.45pm. Only two had originally been scheduled, but the third was added later on.
The scene in A Hard Day's Night where Ringo Starr left the group proved to be somewhat prophetic, as he was the first Beatle to quit. "I felt I wasn't playing great, and I also felt that the other three were really happy and I was an outsider," he recalled in Anthology.
Abbey Road was the final album The Beatles recorded and it was issued on Friday 26 September 1969 with a genuinely iconic cover photo.
On August 8, 1969, on a street in north-west London and almost directly outside a celebrated recording studio, one of the most famous ever album covers was shot. Photographer Iain MacMillan took the photograph that would adorn the cover of the brilliant new record named after the street where he stood, Abbey Road.
The image has since become a pop culture icon, with numerous bands imitating it, and caricatures occurring frequently of it. Its popularity is probably due in part to the album's success. The album debuted straight to number one in 1969, and is considered one of the greatest albums ever made by the Beatles.

For veteran recording engineer John Kurlander, this week's celebration of the 50th anniversary of the release of The Beatles “Abbey Road†album — complete with a multi-disc box set — is especially sweet. Kurlander, now 68, was principal second engineer on the album, when he was just 18 years old.
"It was a lot easier, a lot cheaper, but it was almost by default, really, that the album was called Abbey Road." The Beatles had been recording at what was then EMI Studios for many years. "People think they named the album after the studios, but they named it after the road," says Porter. "The studio was EMI then.
