Blue Mountain is an alpine ski resort in Ontario, Canada, just northwest of Collingwood. It is situated on a section of the Niagara Escarpment about 1 km (0.6 mi.)

Kurinji used to once grow abundantly in the Nilgiri Hills (part of the Western Ghats) in Tamil Nadu. The brilliant blue colour of Kurinji has given the hills the name “Nilgiri”, literally meaning “Blue Mountains”. But presently, plantations and buildings have occupied the hills.

The Nilgiris in South India are also Block Mountains. Faulting is the main cause for the formation of Block Mountains that is why they are also known as fault-block Mountains. Some block mountains are associated with rift valleys. Several such mountains are found is East Africa.
Anamudi Peak, KeralaThe highest peak in the Western Ghats in South Asia among all peaks in western ghats, Anamudi peak is located in Kerala. It has a height of about 8842 feet (2695 metres) above sea level. The place has also earned the name of “Himalayas of the South”.

The Wildlife of the Blue Mountains
- Tiger Quoll. When you're travelling through, keep your eyes peeled for species such as the tiger quoll.
- Yellow-Bellied Glider. These cute little fluffy animals are well worth the spotting.
- Green and Golden Bell Frog.
- Blue Mountain Water Skink.
- Dingo.
- Koalas.
- Kangaroos.
- Bats.
Snowfall. The Blue Mountains generally has a reputation for snow in winter, however, despite the cool temperatures there are only around 5 snow days per year in the upper mountains. It is extremely rare to see snow below Lawson.
The 1813 crossing of the Blue Mountains was the expedition led by Gregory Blaxland, William Lawson and William Charles Wentworth, which became the first successful crossing of the Blue Mountains in New South Wales by European settlers.
Blaxland was first inhabited by the Oryang/Aurang Clan of the Darug tribe of Australian Aboriginals. These people occupied the lower Blue Mountains area for 40,000 years or more. The Indigenous people lived on berries, wild fruits and roots, wallabies and possums.
The Three Sisters tower over the Jamison Valley which is located near Katoomba. They are made of sandstone, like the walls of the surrounding Jamison Valley. The three formations were created by wind and rain which is constantly sculpting the soft sandstone of the Blue Mountains.

Jamaica is believed to be the product of prehistoric volcanoes. The central ridge of the Blue and John Crow Mountains range comprises metamorphic rock that has pushed through surrounding limestone during the land ascent from the sea floor.
