Chennai lies on the thermal equator and is also coastal, which prevents extreme variation in seasonal temperature. For most of the year, the weather is hot and humid. The most prevailing winds in Chennai is the Southwesterly between the end of May to end of September and the Northeasterly during the rest of the year.
Explanation: Chennai is cooler than Delhi though Chennai is nearer to the equator because Chennai is a coastal city and Delhi is an inland city. During the daytime, the land warms up much faster than the sea; and during the nighttime, the land cools down much faster than the sea.
In Chennai, the wet season is overcast, the dry season is windy and partly cloudy, and it is hot and oppressive year round. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 71°F to 98°F and is rarely below 68°F or above 103°F.
Climate
| Seasons | Month | Climate |
|---|
| Spring | Feburary to March | Sunny and pleasant. |
| Summer | April to June | Hot |
| Monsoon | July to Mid-September | Wet, hot and humid |
| Autumn | September end to November | Pleasant |
The main reason why this happen is because Chennai is located near a sea shore and Delhi has no water around it. Whereas the in the case if Delhi the winds are dry and hot. So the sweat there gets dried quick and the hot temperature there can be tolerated for once.
Hyderabad is extremely hot in summer, but is balmy in other seasons. Chennai sucks in climate. Humid, itchy and sweaty.
Chennai lies on thermal equator and near the coast. The coastal areas have more humidity whereas Delhi lies in the northern part of India which is away from coastal plains. This prove that Chennai is humid than Delhi.
Chennai has 'moderate climate' because it 'lies on thermal equator' and also in the 'coastal area'. The annual temperature in Chennai is almost the same. The reason for this is to be located on Chennai's ocean coast and on thermal equator. Weather throughout the year is generally 'hot and humid'.
