Dream Theater has really influenced the band, right? Absolutely, 100%. The other guys for sure, for me it really happened after we toured and I seriously got into them.
Mark Holcomb was born October 21, 1982 in the Philippines. He is 36 years old and currently living in Austin, Texas. Mark joined Periphery in 2011 replacing Alex Bois as a live show stand in and became a full-time member in 2012. In 2015, he started a side project with his Periphery bandmate Misha Mansoor.
In what can't really come as a surprise to anybody, bassist Adam “Nolly†Getgood has decided to officially leave Periphery. When the band announced their album last year, they noted Nolly would no longer be a touring member of the band. So it was only a matter of time.
Reptile is the longest and one of the heaviest songs you've ever recorded… Mark Holcomb: "That song actually came out of this tuning I had, we call it drop G. It's so dirty! From low to high it's G G C F A D.

Born in Clark, Pampanga in 1982, Holcomb holds great pride in being Filipino-American, and has a soft spot for adobo.
Holcomb: I think I took a couple more in 1995, when I was 13 — maybe five, six total. I never had formal training. None of us in the band have any music theory background. I know some musicians who can spit theory at you all day, but they can't really transcribe things by ear and don't know how to follow things by ear.

In the first few years of Periphery's existence, the band had a high member turnover, finally solidifying a lineup in 2012 after the addition of Adam "Nolly" Getgood on bass. After four studio albums with Periphery, the bassist has now made the decision to step down from the group.

Misha “Bulb†Mansoor's guitars are well designed and very colorful. His No. 1 is a Jackson Custom Shop 7-string with a basswood body, quilted maple top, maple neck, and an ebony fretboard. His Bare Knuckle Juggernaut pickups drive his aggressive style, and he carries an almost identical 6-string version.
Mansoor says he makes most of his money from other music-related and guitar-related stuff, mainly in order to not only keep Periphery going easily, but also to keep it as fun as possible.

UG: You guys have three guitar players in the band, which is not that common sight in metal. Like I said, we're just very aware of what each person brings to the band. We're all not inspired at exactly the same time, so it really gives space for one or two people to step back and let the other person work.
While these could all be played in dropped D, one of the big features of Periphery's sound is the low tuning. On a 6-string, Mansoor often tunes the lowest string down to A; he keeps his 7-strings tuned to G# and 8-strings in F#.
