The "father of journalism" is Matthew Brady. The camera was a relatively new invention at the time of the Civil War, but Brady carried his camera and dark room from battlefield to battlefield. He was the first to capture live images of current events.
Negatives are usually formed on a transparent material, such as plastic or glass. Exposure of sensitized paper through the negative, done either by placing the negative and paper in close contact or by projecting the negative image onto the paper, reverses these tones and produces a positive photographic print.
The earliest practical photographic process was the daguerreotype; it was introduced in 1839 and did not use film. The light-sensitive chemicals were formed on the surface of a silver-plated copper sheet. The first transparent plastic roll film followed in 1889. It was made from highly flammable cellulose nitrate film.

In 1913 Oskar Barnack began to research the possibility of inventing a smaller camera that anyone could use. The Leica camera began to be commercialized after World War 1, and they eventually developed second model called the Leica 1.
The film is fogged, either chemically or by exposure to light. The remaining silver halide salts are developed in the second developer, converting them into a positive image composed of metallic silver. Finally, the film is fixed, washed, dried and cut.
You have loaded film into your camera, composed your image and pressed the shutter. When that film is processed, it reverses the tones of the subject. In simple terms, the image is dark where the subject was light, and light where the subject was dark. That resulting image is known as a negative.
Such films, called panchromatic films, were introduced in 1904. They record subject colour values as gray tones largely corresponding to the visual brightness of the colours.

Centuries of advances in chemistry and optics, including the invention of the camera obscura, set the stage for the world's first photograph. In 1826, French scientist Joseph Nicéphore Niépce, took that photograph, titled View from the Window at Le Gras, at his family's country home.
A pioneering three-color additive system was patented in England by Edward Raymond Turner in 1899. It used a rotating set of red, green and blue filters to photograph the three color components one after the other on three successive frames of panchromatic black-and-white film.
A positive image is a normal image. A negative image is a total inversion, in which light areas appear dark and vice versa. Film negatives usually have less contrast, but a wider dynamic range, than the final printed positive images. The contrast typically increases when they are printed onto photographic paper.
New film cameras in 2020? Yes, it's true. Believe it or not, there are still a few in-production film cameras available, brand new, today. And looking beyond the brand new, there is, of course, an active used market for photographers looking to dip their toes into the film photography world.
In reality, once the developer is completely rinsed off the film, it should have no further practical sensitivity to lightit is still sensitive to light, but there is no developer to continue developing the white-light exposed silver-thus it remains undeveloped and can be fixed out in the fixer.
