One of the most important reasons that the First World War lasted so long was the failure of the Schlieffen Plan. On the one hand the Allies collectively had more troops, since Russia possessed the biggest army in Europe and Britain and France recruited men from their colonies to fight in the war.
From 1919 to 1932, Luke Field, Territory of Hawaii, was named after Luke. In the 2006 movie Flyboys, James Franco's leading character Blaine Rawlings is inspired by Frank Luke.

WW1 caused the downfall of four monarchies: Germany, Turkey, Austria-Hungary and Russia. The war made people more open to other ideologies, such as the Bolsheviks that came to power in Russia and fascism that triumphed in Italy and even later in Germany.
The immediate cause of World War I that made the aforementioned items come into play (alliances, imperialism, militarism, nationalism) was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary. This assassination led to Austria-Hungary declaring war on Serbia.
Americans involvement in World War One pushed it to world status. Being on the winning side gave it some controlled over the counties that lost and that were broken up. In November 1917, Bullard claimed two aerial victories, a Fokker Triplane and a Pfalz D. III, but neither could be confirmed. (Some accounts say that one victory was confirmed.)

The value of the French Air Force in 1939 was reduced by the number of obsolescent planes in its order of battle: 131 of the 634 fighters and nearly all of the 463 bombers.
The film ends with an epilogue that relates the fate of each American pilot to the real-life Lafayette Escadrille pilot upon whom his character was based.
