As long as the porcelain remains wet, a personcan use various fine grades of sandpaper. Yes,sandpaper. You must remember to use very fine-gritsandpaper, and the porcelain must remain wet at alltimes. As long as the porcelain is wet, the sandpaperwill “float” on the surface and will notscratch it.
Bevel cuts are made on the edge of a tile. They are typically 45-degree cuts but may be larger or smallerdepending on the job. Bevels can be cut into the edge of atile for decorative purposes, as a transition to anotherfloor or to be used in place of a tilebullnose.
Cleaning Polished Porcelain Tiles
Use 50% less detergent per gallon of warm water thanyou would on unpolished or textured porcelain tiles. Mop thefloor or wipe the countertops, but do not allow the water tosit on the tiles. Rinse the tiles immediately withclean, warm water.Use an orbital sander and sandpaper with a finegrit. 220 grit is recommended to sand ceramic tiles. This will take the glaze off the tile but still leavethe surface smooth. The sanding needs to be a slow andcareful process.
First, you will want to smooth the cut tile edge, then add the bevel. When adding the bevel back holdthe file at a 45 degree angle to the edge of thetile. Gently rub along the entire tile side, and forharder stones apply more pressure. Time will vary depending ontile material and tool selected.
Buffing Tile Floors
It is very easy to hand buff porcelain tilefloors using either a soft cloth or porcelain tile polishingpads. Unglazed porcelain tile won't shine in the same waythat glazed porcelain tile does, but it will stilllook bright and have a noticeable sheen to it.Whether it's a floor, countertop or backsplash, polishing ceramic tile is an easy task that only costs a fewcents. Mix 1/4 cup of white vinegar with one gallon of warmwater in a large bucket. Immerse a clean rag into the solution toclean and polish ceramic tile countertops, backsplashes or other items.

When putting a shower niche in an existing wall,12”w x 24”h is a good size. It allows theniche to fit between studs which are often 16 inches apart. With a glass shelf at 12 inches this creates 2 feet of shelf space. The typical depth of a shower niche is 3.5 inches, the widthof a wood stud.
There's either wires and pipes in the way or the studbay is too narrow. The only good place to install one wouldbe on an exterior wall which would leave a big gaping holein the homes insulation. To rule out an exterior wall for ashower niche can sometimes mean that you justcan't put one in a shower.

The tray portion of the cutter the tile rests oncan change direction to hold the tile firmly in place ineither a 90- or 45-degree angle. If you are cuttingtiles for the diagonal, or removing the corner of a tilefor a tile insert, you are likely cutting on a45-degree angle.
