All the AV connections are the same on the PS consoles (when holding the one from a PS2 and the one that came with the PS3 beside each other there is no difference at all).
Getting Started with PS3
- PlayStation "Slim" system.
- Blu-ray player (built-in)
- Wi-fi for easy, wireless Internet connection.
- 1 DualShock 3 wireless controller.
- AC power cord.
- Composite AV cable (for old TVs)
- USB cable.
- Some specially marked boxes include an HDMI cable.
Insert one end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI OUT connector on the rear of the PlayStation 3 system. Insert the other end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI Input connector of the display device. Reconnect the PlayStation 3 system to the power supply and turn the PlayStation 3 system on.
PS3 and HDMI
Sony does not provide one, but you can buy an HDMI cable cheaply and easily. This will allow you to hook up your television to your PS3 and get the best quality picture from a single cable. If you find that your television lacks an HDMI input, don't worry.Plug the single end of either your component, composite or S-video cable into the PS3's "AV Multi Out" port, located on the back of the console. Plug the other end of your cable into the corresponding input on your television. Each should be labeled on the back of your television.
Plug the yellow end of the Wii A/V cable into this green Y input. Plug the white end into the audio L and the red into the audio R. Leave the blue and second red holes open. Turn on your Wii console and set your television to the input select being used.
To manually change the Video Output Settings on the PS3:
- Go to [Settings] in the XMB™ home menu.
- Go to [Display Settings], then press the [X] button.
- Highlight [Video Output Settings], then press the [X] button.
- Select [HDMI] as the connector type on your display, then press the [X] button.
Sony gives buyers what they've always wanted.
Sony's HD-capable console will soon finally include a HD cable. Sony had previously only included a standard composite video cable. It's unclear at the moment if a HDMI cable will become standard across all PlayStation 3 bundles, or if this is a one-time offer.Use the yellow cable to plug that into the monitor video in jack (also yellow, generally, but may be green if the component video input is pulling double duty on your monitor). The red and white go from the audio out on your source to the audio in for your speakers (which may also be a part of your TV set).
Connect the flat end of the AV Cable into the port marked AV MULTI OUT on the back of the PS3. Be sure to plug them into the jacks marked 'INPUT'. Note: If the TV does not have color-coded inputs, but does have VIDEO & AUDIO IN, use:Yellow = VIDEO IN, White = AUDIO IN (Left), and Red = AUDIO IN (Right).
Yes, whenever you move your PS3 to a different AV connection, all you must do is connect it to a TV with whatever cables you want to use, and hold down the power button until you hear a 2nd beep. It resents the output to whatever is connected at the time.
Reset the Video Output Settings
If you changed televisions or changed the type of cable you are using, you may need to reset the video output on the PS3. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable into the [HDMI Input] port of the TV or display monitor. Plug the PS3 and television (or display) back into the wall socket. It connects to the HDMI port on the TV via an HDMI dongle(small receiver) and the console via a HDMI stick. I have a projector wirelessly connected to a SONY receiver and the PS4, PS3, are physically connected to the receiver. This amounts to a sleek wireless set-up with a roughly 200 inch HD display.
Connect a PlayStation 3 to a Wireless Network
- Turn off all your network equipment (modem and router) as well as the PlayStation 3.
- Turn on your modem and router.
- Turn on the PS3.
- Choose Internet Connections and select Enabled.
- Select the Easy option and press the X button.
- Select Wireless and press the X button.
Not all HDMI cables are the same. It's true that HDMI is a digital signal, and that as long as the signal is passed cleanly, you won't be able to tell the difference between two different cables. However, digital signals are a pass/fail proposition.
With recently-released update 4.60 to the PS3, you can now use a DualShock 4 wirelessly to control PS3 games. A post on Reddit details the new feature, which simply requires you to pair a PS4 controller with the PS3 using Bluetooth. Select "Manage Bluetooth Devices" under "Accessory Settings" in the PS3 settings menu.
Connect the flat end of the AV cable into the port marked [AV MULTI OUT] on the back of the PlayStation 3 system. Connect the other ends of the cable into the AV inputs of the TV (or display) according to colour: Yellow to Yellow, White to White, and Red to Red. Be sure to plug them into the jacks marked INPUT.
