Tomato plants perform best in soil that is loose, rich, and drains well, which means they translate easily to container gardens—especially more compact determinate tomatoes, or bush varieties. Indeterminate tomato varieties that grow larger have more extensive root systems and do better planted directly in the ground.
Five-gallon buckets are the perfect size for one plant. Fill the pot with high-quality potting soil and make sure the container has good drainage. Some tomato growers suggest planting herbs or other plants in the same container.
Fortunately, any tomato variety regardless of size can be grown in a container, provided that you furnish your plant with a pot that is large enough to accommodate its size and needs. Tomatoes are generally demanding plants with amply-sized root systems. The bigger the plant, the bigger the pot you should provide.
Cherry Tomatoes are the easiest tomatoes for beginners to grow. They produce crop after crop and have very few problems!
All kinds of tomatoes are appropriate for pots, as long as the pots are of good size. Kansas City master gardener Kathy Hoggard recommends pots at least 20 inches across the top and 24 inches deep for tomatoes.
Like all tomato varieties, Black Krim tomatoes are rich in fiber, vitamin A and vitamin C. They are also a good source of lycopene, a natural antioxidant known to prevent cancer.
Black Krim is an heirloom tomato, so it will not have disease resistance like a hybrid tomato. Therefore, it will be more susceptible to diseases, such as blight and Fusarium or Verticullium Wilts.

MATURE DATE. You can expect your Black Krim tomatoes to mature in as little as 90 days, and continue to produce up through 120 days or longer.
Better Boy tomatoes are indeterminate, which means they should be grown in cages or staked tepee-style. Because of their large size, 5-8 feet (1.5-2.5 m.) in height, Better Boy tomatoes are not suited to containers.
Hangs nicely on the vine, and stores very well – flavor even improves with a couple of days of room-temperature storage. Deer-resistant. Indeterminate.
Leaf curl can be seen if the plants are too cold, too hot, it's windy, too wet or too dry. I also can occur if there's a heavy fruit burden. So I don't see leaf curl being exclusive to so called black varieties.
How do you grow the black tomato from seed? Sow Tomato seed in trays or pots 6mm (¼"deep) in a greenhouse or propagator at a temperature of 18-21°C (65-70°F). Germination takes 8-12 days. When the seedlings are large enough to handle transplant them into 7.5cm (3") pots.
