Click on Utilities in the Apple menu and select Terminal. At the Terminal prompt, type 'resetpassword' then hit enter. This will launch the reset utility, which allows you to select a drive, a user, then a new password and password hint for your admin user. After saving, go to the Apple Menu and click Restart.
On your Mac, choose Apple menu > Restart, or press the Power button on your computer and then click Restart. Click your user account, click the question mark in the password field, then click the arrow next to “reset it using your Apple ID.” Enter an Apple ID and password, then click Next.
Important: If you're running
Android 5.1 and up, you need to wait 24 hours after
changing your password to do
a factory reset.
Change your password
- Open your Google Account.
- Under "Security," select Signing in to Google.
- Choose Password.
- Enter your new password, then select Change Password.
With your Mac now in Recovery Mode, click on Utilities in the menu bar followed by Terminal. A new window will show up, waiting for you to enter a command. Type "resetpassword" as one word, without the quotes, and press Return. Close the Terminal window, where you will then find the Reset Password tool.
How to Reset Admin Password on Mac
- Restart your Mac.
