Click “Refresh Receiver” next to the image of the receiver you want to refresh. If you don't know which one to choose, you can do all of them but DIRECTV's system may make you wait a few minutes between each. Try this up to 3 times for each receiver and give it 5 minutes between each to make sure it works.
Select "Manage TV" from the left side of the page. Locate the "Refresh TV Receiver" box on the screen and click the "Refresh Receiver" button. A confirmation box will appear with follow-up instructions if needed.
Locate the reset button. On most DIRECTV receivers, there is a small red button located inside the access card door. With others, the button is on the side of the receiver. Press the red button, then wait for your receiver to reboot.
- Press MENU on your Genie HD DVR remote.
- Select Settings & Help, then Settings, then Whole-Home.
- Choose Manage Client, then Add Clients.
- Go back to the TV where you set up the Genie Mini connection.
- Use the remote to select Continue and enter the PIN when prompted.
- Select Add a New Location.
Change the channel using the channel up/down buttons on the receiver. If you can change channels on the receiver, change the batteries in your remote. If you can't change channels from the receiver, turn it off and unplug it. Press the "guide" button on your remote.
The easiest way to fix your remote is by pressing and holding the Mute and Enter button until you see “Applying IR/ RF setup” appear on the screen. Resetting the receiver may restore remote functions. Near the access card is a red reset button, press and hold that until the receiver restarts.
If that does not work, try resetting the remote to its default factory settings.
- Press and hold MUTE and SELECT together until the light flashes three times.
- Press 9, 8, 1 and SELECT. The remote flashes four times and should now reset.

Program remote manually for your HDTV or audio device
Press and hold the MUTE and SELECT buttons while continuing to point the remote at a Genie device. Stop when the green light at the top of the remote blinks twice. Use the buttons on your Genie remote to enter the code 961. Press the channel up button once.The red light at the end of the remote will flash three times to indicate that the remote can now control your device. When the red light on the end of the remote control turns off, you have reached the end of the available codes.
Manual programming
- Look up the 5-digit code for your brand of TV.
- Find the MODE switch on the remote control and slide it to the TV position.
- Press and hold MUTE and SELECT buttons simultaneously.
- Enter the 5-digit code.
- Aiming the remote at the television, press VOLUME UP.
Press and hold the MUTE and ENTER buttons while continuing to point the remote at a Genie device. Stop when the green light at the top of the remote blinks twice. When the TV screen displays Applying IR/RF setup, you are in RF mode and ready to program the remote. Power on the device you want your remote to control.
UNPLUG THE CABLE GOING FROM THE TV TO YOUR CABLE OR SAT BOX
-Remove the HDMI cable or other cables from your Cable TV or SAT set top box. -Keep the cable unplugged for 2 to 3 minutes. -Plug the HDMI cable or other cables back in. -Give it some time for the Cable or SAT box to get the signal and initialize.The No Signal message indicates a problem with the cable connection or the external device. Disconnect the HDMI cable from the TV and move it to an alternate port. Plug the device back in, and power the device back on. Change the TV to the new HDMI input to see if the issue is resolved.
UNPLUG THE CABLE GOING FROM THE TV TO YOUR CABLE OR SAT BOX
-Remove the HDMI cable or other cables from your Cable TV or SAT set top box. -Keep the cable unplugged for 2 to 3 minutes. -Plug the HDMI cable or other cables back in. -Give it some time for the Cable or SAT box to get the signal and initialize.Reset the network connection on each receiver. If the receiver does not show that both Network and Internet are connected, or if Connect Now doesn't not work, check your cable connections and reset the router and Broadband DECA. You should also unplug the SWM power inserter then plug it back in.
Troubleshoot your DIRECTV receiver
- Make sure your TV is on.
- Press the Power button on the front panel of your receiver.
- Unplug the end of the power cord from the back of your receiver and plug it back in.
- Unplug the other end of your receiver's power cord from the electrical outlet and plug it back in.
