To disable the adaptive brightness feature in the Windows, follow these steps:
- Open the Windows Control Panel.
- Select Hardware and Sound.
- Select Power Options.
- Next to your active power plan, click Change plan settings.
- Below, click Change advanced power settings.
To enable or disable this feature on Windows 10, open the Settings app, select “System,” and select “Display.” Turn the “Change brightness automatically when lighting changes” option on or off.
How to check if Power mode is affecting screen brightness, or turn the feature off. Your battery level might also be affecting screen brightness — if "Adaptive power saving" is on, the power mode (and screen brightness) can change throughout the day as the battery level drops.
If your screen automatically dims or brightens, this is likely due to either Auto adjust screen tone, Power Saving mode or possibly the Adaptive Display screen mode. If Auto adjust screen tone is set, the screen tone will adjust automatically to save power to compensate for different activities, such as internet use.
How to disable auto-brightness
- Go to the Start menu and open the Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel, go to Power Options.
- After the Power Options window pops up, click on Change Plan Settings to look at your current power plan.
- Choose the option to Change advanced power settings located at the bottom of the window.
1) Go to the power options bottom right battery symbol and click it and open "more power options". 2) Next go to the power option you are using and click "change plan settings". 3) Click "Change advanced power settings" and scroll down the list to "display". 4) Expand display and look for "Enable Adaptive Brightness".
To adjust the screen brightness from the settings in the Charms menu, follow these instructions.
- On the Start screen move the cursor to the upper right corner to open the Charms menu.
- Click Settings. Figure : Charms menu.
- Click Brightness.
- Click the slider and drag it up or down to adjust the brightness of the screen.
If you click on Manage Mouse, Manage Hot Keys, or Timer Transfer Limits, you can customize your own mouse shortcuts, keyboard shortcuts, or schedules, respectively. This allows you to, say, adjust the brightness with Ctrl+Shift+MouseWheel, or set the brightness to automatically dim 50 percent at nighttime.
The Fn key is usually located to the left of the spacebar. The brightness function keys may be located at the top of your keyboard, or on your arrow keys. For example, on the Dell XPS laptop keyboard (pictured below), hold the Fn key and press F11 or F12 to adjust the brightness of the screen.
Open Start Menu > Type Device Manager and open it. Find Display Adapters in the list. Click on it to expand and right-click on the relevant display driver. Select Update Driver Software from the menu to fix the Windows 10 brightness control not working issue.
Use Win+A or click on the notifications icon on the bottom right of your screen - you will get the option to change brightness. Search for power settings - you can set the brightness here as well. You can also change these in the BIOS - if your BIOS supports this feature.
On our Lenovo Legion Y520 laptop with Windows 10, you can press the key combination Fn + F11 to lower the brightness and Fn + F12 to increase it. These keys and keyboard shortcuts are available on most Windows 10 laptops and tablets. Look for similar keys with the brightness-specific sun icon on them.
