Hennessy is the largest Cognac producer/trading house, while Rémy Martin comes second in terms of value. Quantity-wise Hennessy is also number 1, with more than 40% of the market value. Remy's share, although large, is somewhat lower at around 15%.
Cognac is a very versatile drink. It may be drunk neat, over ice or diluted with a little water. It can be mixed with quality mixers, such as soda or traditional lemonade to make a long drink, or used to make a cocktail.
Rémy Martin XO Excellence CognacLike the strong complex taste with a moderate finish. It is more masculine than Hennessy XO or other similar age. Good at 150/bottle that I drink for most but special occasions. Strong floral scents but plum and moderate spice finish.
Realistically, you can think that it's okay to store an open bottle of Cognac for around six months before this deterioration becomes noticeable. But even though an open bottle will deteriorate with age, it's still fine to drink. It's just that you might notice a difference in the taste as the months go by.
According to an article in Livestrong, there is scientific evidence that Cognac may be good for you in moderation. These benefits include: -increase antioxidant levels that can prevent risk of clogged arteries, heart disease, cancer and vision loss and may even help the body absorb other antioxidants.
- Cognac and Ginger Ale. We hear you ask – what soda to drink with Cognac?
- Coca Cola. Now, they'll still be a few purists out there who wouldn't dream of such a mix.
- Iced Tea.
- Infuse.
- Tonic.
- With ice.
- With water or soda.
- In a cocktail.
The designations you see on Cognac labels—VS (Very Special), VSOP (Very Superior Old Pale) and XO (Extra Old)—are a guarantee of how long a Cognac has been aged. VS indicates that the Cognac has been aged at least two years, VSOP at least four years and XO (Extra Old) at least six years.

cognac is a type of brandy, a spirit made from fruit. At Rémy Martin, our eaux-de-vie (the distillate of the still wines) come exclusively from the Premier Cru, Grande Champagne, and from the Petite Champagne cru, terroirs that yield eaux-de-vie with exceptional aging potential.
A Cognac is called a “Fine Champagne Cognac” when it contains a blend of eaux-de-vie from both Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne. The Cognac house that is famous for producing only Fine Champagne Cognac is Rémy Martin.
A smooth, fruity VSOP Cognac from Remy Martin, with aromas of vanilla, toasted oak, apricot, baked apple and white flowers. The palate offers notes of liquorice, dried fruit, baking spices and ginger.
Cognac Fine Champagne, made exclusively from eaux-de-vie of the Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne, of which at least 50% come from Grande Champagne, is the only blend of two crus protected by the AOC, the Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée.
Rémy has worked with renowned mixologists to formulate drinks to be made with V, some of which follow. We would also suggest using it in place of gin or vodka in established cocktails, as the Gimlet, Screwdriver, Martini, and Bloody Mary, or mixed with sodas such as quinine tonic or bitter lemon.
Cognac has high alcohol content so it can certainly get you drunk quick and many people use it for that purpose. However, it's a drink that's supposed to be enjoyed while relaxing and not to get drunk.

So why is this Cognac so expensive? All Remy Martin is made with grapes from the Grande Champagne vineyards in the Cognac region of France. And the Black Pearl has been hidden in the Grollet family estate, the family home of Remy Martin's descendant Madame Heriard-Dubreuil, since 1960.
1738 Accord Royal is about 40% pricier than Rémy Martin V.S.O.P. and about 60% less than Rémy Martin XO. Age: Rémy Martin 1738 Accord Royal is a fine champagne cognac blend of 240 eaux-de-vie, 65% Grande Champagne and 35% Petite Champagne, aged in French Limousin Oak barrels for four to twenty years.
Cognac does not age in the bottle, so however old it was at the time of bottling (and VSOP indicates at least four years) it is still that age for aging purposes. If your only concern is whether it is still good, an unopened bottle of Cognac can stay good for much longer than 13 years.
