ODSTs and Spartans have basically the same types of mission, both are special forces.

Lance Corporal "Rookie" (SN: 11282-31220-JD) was a Human junior enlisted man who served with the UNSC Marine Corps during the Human-Covenant war. Rookie was trained as a member of the elite Orbital Drop Shock Troopers early in his career, serving with the 105th Shock Troops Division at New Jerusalem.
One of the youngest orphans to be abducted for the SPARTAN-III project, Jun grew to be an expert marksman and seasoned scout, though complications with his augmentations nearly crippled him.
