Mountain goats are unpredictable. Visitors should stay at least 50 yards away, and keep a close eye on children to insure that they also maintain a safe distance. With their sharp horns and powerful bodies, mountain goats can inflict significant and lethal injuries.
The collective noun used to describe a group of goats is the word trip. You would identify a group of goats together as 'a trip of goats.
These long-horned goats are probably descended from domesticated wild goats. Historically, there have been long established scattered populations over the more rugged hills of Scotland. It is the only indigenous goat in Scotland – those used today for cheesemaking are imported breeds.
Feral goats are thought to have roamed parts of Scotland and the north of England for about 5,000 years, and were introduced by Stone Age humans. There are currently estimated to be about 3,000 animals in herds spread across the UK.
Domesticated goats are descended from the pasang (Capra aegagrus), which is probably native to Asia, the earliest records being Persian. In China, Great Britain, Europe, and North America, the domestic goat is primarily a milk producer, with a large portion of the milk being used to make cheese.
Habitat. Mountain goats are found in the Rocky Mountains, typically in Alaska, western Montana, central Idaho, South Dakota, Colorado and Washington.
The UK is not self-sufficient in food production; it imports 48% of the total food consumed and the proportion is rising. Therefore, as a food-trading nation, the UK relies on both imports and a thriving agricultural sector to feed itself and drive economic growth.

Sheep have been resident of the UK since Roman times, and became hugely important when wool, meat, milk and skins formed the basis of Medieval trade. Today, meat is the main product of sheep, although skins, wool and milk also have their own markets.
Sheep costs vary depending on breed, age, weight, and possibly a number of other factors. On average a Katahdin cross (a breed developed and bred in the US) ewe costs US$300 while lambs are a little cheaper, approximately US$250.
The total number of pigs in the UK is an estimated 4.7 million at 1 December 2017, an increase of 3.9% from December 2016. The main driver for the overall increase was the number of fattening pigs which rose by 4.4% (177 thousand animals) from December 2016 to 4.2 million pigs in December 2017.
Scotland has more sheep than people.Lambs made up the largest proportion with 47%, other sheep over one year old accounted for 12%. Scotland has 5.3 million people according to the latest Census figures.

Today the largest pastoral farming practices in the UK focus on the breeding and raising cattle, sheep and pigs. Poultry farms are also prevalent, and there are even small numbers of goat farms.
