My full HD videos (1920x1080 resolution, H. 264 codec, Audio Codec AAC, MP4 Format) usually turns out around 20–30 MB per minute. So an hour long video would be 60 mins x 25 MB, roughly around 1,500 MB or 1.5 GB.
Even at the phone's lower 720p HD setting, Apple estimates one minute of video requires 40 megabytes of space. One minute recorded at the highest 4K setting can result in a 400-megabyte file.
1hr of 1080p footage shouldn't take up 10GB. the data amount changes based on a few factors such as frame rate and bit rate. 60fps takes up more space than 30fps.
This is because of the much higher bitrate of the pro res format. So what you are doing is exporting at a much higher bitrate than the bitrate of the clip that you originally imported. Therefore much larger file size. Also, iMovie does not support 2.7k resolution, and that's why it got reduced to 1080p.
Convert Video on an Android Device

iMovie will autosave all of its data and assets (video, images, audio) into a library file called iMovie Library in the Movies folder of the computer you are working on for the day. Every time you make a change or add to your project in iMovie, your project will autosave.
How to free up storage space manually
- Music, movies, and other media can use a lot of storage space.
- Delete other files that you no longer need by moving them to the Trash, then emptying the Trash.
