Across the United States Armed Forces, the maximum age for enlistment for someone who has never served in the military before depends on the branch. For the Army, the maximum age is 35. Most of the troops who do end up in combat zones do not actually enter combat against the enemy. They are support troops backing up those who do. When you break it down, about one out of every 10 soldiers in the military -- 10% overall -- actually go to combat and have to fire their weapons.
