We usually do brings some snacks and bottle of water. I don't think you are supposed to but as long as you are not hauling a cooler into the aquarium they don't seem to mind. They do have a little food stand in the aquarium though. Yes, you can bring in food.

Generally about 3 - 4 hours. As for what else to do, suggestions would be helped by knowing what your interests are, how many are in your group, will there be children, when you are planning to visit, etc.

In my opinion, Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies is a very well done aquarium, and my vacation math, especially for a family of four, certainly checks out. Two of my personal favorite features of this aquarium is the 340-foot underwater tunnel, and of course, the Penguin Playhouse.
