BSA MEMBERSHIPThe annual membership fee is $66 which covers 12 months of members and there is a one time joining fee of $25 (Effective August 1, 2020). For only $1 a month, $12 for the year, Cub Scouts may subscribe to Boys' Life magazine. There may be additional local program fees and/or dues.
For most of our participants, the new national membership fee amounts to $5.50 a month, which is an enormous value when you consider that many seasonal extracurricular activities often start at $100 for programs that last a few weeks.
The Scouts BSA (formerly Boy Scouts) are not free to join. To sign up for Scouting, you'll have to pay an annual fee for each child registered in a troop. Funds to support the national organization of the Boy Scouts of America come from registration fees, local council service fees, investment income, Scouting and Boys' Life magazines, sale of uniforms and equipment, and contributions from individuals.

Cub Scout Uniform CostsCub Scout uniforms cost about as much as any other Scout uniform (around $140), but Cub Scout troops tend to be more casual about dress codes since they're dealing with younger kids. Achieving the rank of Eagle Scout is a very big deal because it signifies a dedication and workload that few can meet. The Eagle rank indicates that the Scout has done a lot to learn many different skills, one of the most important being leadership.
Often meetings focus on fun challenges, games, and skits. Scouts work on and perform these activities together. Meetings allow Cub Scouts to work through their handbooks to achieve specific milestones and take steps to make sure they are prepared for their next year in Scouting.

Starting age for Beavers is usually 6, but this will depend upon the Scout Group's own waiting list policies. Looking ahead, children can join Cubs from around the age of 8 and Scouts from 10 and a half. Explorer Scouting starts at 14 and runs until Scouts are 18.
How often does a troop meet? Scouts meet once each week at their troop meeting. Beyond that, it depends on the patrol and troop. A troop may hold a special activity, such as a service project or outdoor experience, in place of one of the weekly meetings or in addition to the weekly meetings.
