If police departments accept private donations to supplement public funding, they have to do it carefully and purify the donations to avoid questioning. First, in most instances the department does not accept donations directly, but rather through a Police Foundation.
The large majority of police officers are assigned to a patrol function and, as a result, they spend most of their day answering calls for service. Adding Facebook into that group, the five most valuable U.S. tech companies are now worth a staggering $5.2 trillion, accounting for over 17% of the S&P 500, according to FactSet.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, will commit today to investing record amounts to support policing and to tackle crime. The Mayor will confirm this investment as his Budget is considered for approval by the London Assembly. Keeping Londoners safe is the Mayor's top priority.
Police visibility was seen as a means of facilitating engagement and intervention which, when combined, would be expected to enhance quality of life, reduce fear of crime, fear of intimidation and reduce the incidence of crime.
The Government controls more than 70 per cent of Met police funding*, yet have neglected this responsibility, refusing to give the Met the resources they need to do their job, and passing the buck to the Mayor, and the London taxpayer**.
