How much it costs to travel in The Philippines really depends on your travel style and where you go. Manila (especially) and Boracay are significantly more expensive than other parts of The Philippines and once you are out of the tourist hot-spots it's relatively easy to thrive on a budget of $35 a day.

The best transportation for cities is a combination of:
- Heavy rail (or traditional subway-type trains) for trunk lines, center cities, and heavy transit corridors.
- Light rail (with dedicated rights of way on busy thoroughfares) to supplement and compliment heavy rail.
Another option is taking a bus. Busses can be air-conditioned or not. The prices start at 4 pesos (not air-conditioned busses) or 9 pesos (air-conditioned busses).
Yanson Group of Bus Companies is the largest land transport company in the Philippines. It comprises Ceres Liner, established in 1968,<Ceres Transport, Inc. , established in 2009, Rural Transit of Mindanao Inc.
Habal-habal is a local dialect for motorcycle taxis or motorcycle “for hire” which means “sitting close to each other”. Habal-habal passengers, who usually range from two to three persons, sit behind the driver, close to each other, thus the term.
A jeepney costs about 800,000 pesos, but the prototype vehicles are expected to range from 1.2 million to 1.6 million pesos.
The Manila Metro Rail Transit System (MRT) is one of the two rapid transit systems serving Metro Manila in the Philippines along with the Manila Light Rail Transit System (LRTA). This includes the Line 9 (Metro Manila Subway) and the elevated Line 7 which are being built as of January 2020.
Island hopping is great in many destinations in Cebu, but the best island hopping in the Philippines is in Palawan. Even though El Nido and Coron are better than Puerto Princesa, the latter is very easily reached, and perfect for families. The first is The Moalboal Canyoneering and waterfalls in Cebu Island.
While most of our guests stay for an average of 15-20 days, the shortest time we can recommend for a Philippine holiday is 7-10 days already including your day of arrival and departure.
Getting around the Philippines. The large number of budget flights and ferry services between major destinations makes it easy to cover the Philippine archipelago, even on a tight budget, though the main drawback is that everything routes through Manila and Cebu.
And, on top of it all, The Philippines is ridiculously cheap! The Philippines is a country you can travel on for as little as $20 USD a day if you're doing it on a broke-backpacker budget — and it's possible to travel much cheaper than that if you really push it by hitchhiking and camping.
ONLY 10 DAYS IN THE PHILIPPINES
Ten days wasn't nearly enough, but it's all the time I could take off. A month in the Philippines would have been the dream. With flights from the US, the entire trip would take 12 days with 10 days on the ground in the Philippines.U.S. Citizens planning to enter and visit the Philippines for 30 days or less do not need a visa prior to travel to the Philippines, provided their U.S. passport is valid and they have a valid return ticket.
Getting Around Manila
- Grab Taxi. The cheapest and easiest way to get around Manila is using a Grab Taxi.
- Uber. Similar to Grab and maybe more familiar to most you can actually get an Uber ride in Manila and in a few other cities in the PH.
- Bike Taxi. Another fun and cheap way to get around the city is by Bike Taxi.
Take the Boat
If you're departing for the Philippines from a nearby Asian nation, traveling by ship may prove economical and enjoyable. The EPA Shipping Line (no website; no address; 083-380-3591) is the biggest ferry operator for the trip. A few ferry lines offer service from Malaysia to the Philippines.I traveled around the Philippines for 2 weeks and spent a total of $1,155 USD. At no point did I feel like I was living on a tight budget – in fact, we splurged on most things and stayed in nice hotels and hostels. We each spent $82,5 per day, but you can easily do it much cheaper than that.
High season is considered to be January, November and December. The cheapest month to fly to the Philippines is September.
Coronavirus (COVID-19) travel restrictions in the Philippines – updated 10 June, 2020. The Philippines declared a health emergency due to the local transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19). From 3 May, all international flights are suspended until 1 July, 2020. All sea and land borders are closed to foreign travelers.
A week in the Philippines can cost you about $365 (per person), while a week in Thailand may cost you around $463. These differences become even more noticable if you plan to spend a longer time in the country. Accommodation is often cheaper in the Philippines compared to Thailand ($19 vs. $32).
A simple but tasty and hearty meal at a busy local restaurant costs around $3 on average. A three-course dinner at a mid-range neighborhood restaurant costs about $16 for two people, not including alcoholic beverages. A pint of Filipino bottle of beer is about $1, while a 12-ounce import costs $1.96.
No permit is required from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas to bring in to or to take out from the Philippines of foreign currencies. However foreign currency in excess of US$10000 carried by the traveler must be declared at the Bureau of Customs Desk in the airport.
I personally would spend about P75,000 in 3 weeks travelling in the Philippines. That is for travel, accommodation, meals, daily massage and entertainment.
Global Health Advisory: Do Not Travel. Avoid all international travel due to the global impact of COVID-19. Exercise increased caution in the Philippines due to crime, terrorism, civil unrest, a measles outbreak, and kidnapping. Some areas have increased risk.

It is because the salaries are so much higher in many other countries. And there are more opportunities of available jobs. The largest export of the Philippines is people. So many Filipinos work hard and live in less than desirable conditions abroad while sending much money back to relatives who don't work.
Invest in MRT/LRT infrastructure development. Modernize all primary public utility vehicles. Ex: Jeepneys, buses. Build state of the art railway systems on provinces connecting them to cities, specially Visayas and Mindanao areas.
Jeepneys (Filipino: Dyipni), sometimes called simply jeeps (Filipino: dyip), are buses and the most popular means of public transportation ubiquitous in the Philippines. They are known for their crowded seating and kitsch decorations, which have become a wide spread symbol of Philippine culture and art.
Infrastructure problems

Traffic congestion is a condition on transport that is characterised by slower speeds, longer trip times, and increased vehicular queueing. Traffic congestion can lead to drivers becoming frustrated and engaging in road rage.
The Metro Commuter has a present ridership of 100,000 daily.
Mass transit system refers to public shared transportation, such as trains, buses, ferries etc that can commute a larger number of passengers from origin to destination on a no-reserved basis and in lesser time. It can also be termed as Public Transport. Mass transit can be of two types: heavy rail or light rail.
