Survival rates vary significantly, depending on the type of adenocarcinoma. Women with breast cancer that has spread locally but not to distant organs may have a 5-year survival rate of around 85%. A person with an equivalent stage adenocarcinoma in the lung would have a survival rate of about 33%.
If the pyloric valve located between the stomach and first part of the small intestine (duodenum) is removed, the stomach is unable to retain food long enough for partial digestion to occur. Food then travels too rapidly into the small intestine producing a condition known as the post-gastrectomy syndrome.
It can detect mucosal diseases such as celiac disease, previously discussed, in addition to eosinophilic enteritis, with the highest yield through duodenal biopsies. Infections with organisms such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Strongyloides stercoralis may be identified through distal small bowel biopsies.
Genetics. Inherited condition: Although most small intestine cancers occur without a known hereditary link, there are some inherited conditions that may lead to a higher risk. The inherited conditions associated specifically with small intestine adenocarcinoma are: Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP)
Adenocarcinoma is the most common type of colon cancer. It starts out as a small polyp, or growth, that's usually harmless at first but can turn into cancer.
The cancers with the lowest five-year survival estimates are mesothelioma (6.5%), pancreatic cancer (7.3%) and brain cancer (12.2%). The highest five-year survival estimates can be seen in patients with testicular cancer (95.3%), melanoma of skin (91.3%) and thyroid cancer (87.4%).
In a few cases, chemotherapy may be combined with steroid medication. Surgery isn't generally used to treat the condition, except for the biopsy used to diagnose it. Overall, treatment for Hodgkin lymphoma is highly effective and most people with the condition are eventually cured.
Liver cancer. Because no symptoms are present until later stages, liver cancer is another hard-to-detect cancer. “If the tumor is small, it's especially hard to detect on a physical exam because most of the organ is covered by the right rib cage,” explains Dr. Fikry.

Cancer is named for the place where it starts. So when small intestine cancer spreads to the liver (or any other place), it's still called small intestine cancer. It's not called liver cancer unless it starts from cells in the liver.

The duodenum is the shortest segment of the intestine and is about 23 to 28 cm (9 to 11 inches) long. It is roughly horseshoe-shaped, with the open end up and to the left, and it lies behind the liver.
Duodenal ulcers are noncancerous (benign). Occasionally, gastric ulcers can become cancerous (gastric cancer). Vomiting blood, passing black stools, or blood in the stool (blood loss) also may be signs of stomach cancer and peptic ulcers.

Erosion is a relatively uncommon complication, where the band slowly erodes through the gastric wall and into the gastric lumen and becomes visible at endoscopy [5]. It is considered the most dangerous of all LAGB complications, due to its potentially life-threatening character.
