Get GoodNotes from the App Store
GoodNotes 5 is available for iPad and iPhone as a one-time purchase.GoodNotes lags and shows blank squares on the page when swiping between pages. Explanation: One of the cause is the current limitation of the highlighter tool. Therefore, it is recommended to avoid too much overlapping highlighter strokes, which usually happens when highlighting back and forth over the same place.
Dependability: Once downloaded, Notability does NOT require internet access for operability. Sharing and back-up features would not be functional without internet access. iCloud can be used to sync notes between iPad, iPhone, and Mac, but you cannot import or export to it.
Very handy, but GoodNotes improves on these services in two ways: Evernote and OneNote do server-side handwriting recognition, which means you need an internet connection and there will be a delay in recognition – something that's been particularly noticeable with Evernote in my experience.

I LOVE my apple pencil. I like to draw a lot, so for me it's worth it. If you just want a stylus for highlighting, and writing, and you think Apple Pencil is out of your budget, I would go for a different stylus, there are a few alternatives that are much cheaper, and can do the job. Yes it is!
The Pencil isn't the only iPad stylus out there but it's the only one we recommend buying. If you're already spending (at least) a few hundred dollars on an iPad, if you want a stylus, it's worth getting the best one.
