Come March, GM will no longer produce the Volt, as part of the automaker's restructuring plan announced last month. GM said it will focus on growing its truck and SUV business, while prioritizing future investments in next-generation of battery-electric vehicle architectures.
The Volt can achieve a full charge in four and a half hours with a 240-volt adapter. Like anything that comes with a battery, the Bolt and Volt both have pluses and minuses. The Volt looks and has more range while the Bolt provides a more enjoyable driving experience and better utility.
No oil change required, however Chevy just rolled out two recalls for software updates. One can be done OTA, the other requires you bring your car in.

Still, some competitors offer better predicted reliability ratings and nicer interiors with roomier rear seats.
At the Tesla Superchargers, no. They use a proprietary connector in the US and even if you could make an adapter that is electrically compatible, the chargers authenticate each vehicle and will not start a charging session for non-Tesla vehicles. Tesla destination chargers however can be used by other cars.
As it enters the used-car market, the Volt appears to be a high-quality and reliable option for those who want to drive electric most of the time but need the assurance that, if required, they can knock out 250 miles at a stretch.
Beginning in April 2019, the maximum tax credit falls to $3,750 for its qualified vehicles, notably the Chevrolet Bolt and the Chevrolet Volt. After that, there is no credit for a qualified vehicle from GM. Nissan is next in line for a credit phaseout, but it's about 70,000 vehicles away from the 200,000 mark.
our customers are leaving the Volt to get into the Bolt EV.” Last year, GM announced that the Chevy Bolt is just the first of at least 20 new all-electric vehicles (which includes fuel-cell electric vehicles) that the company will launch by 2023. GM isn't the only automaker taking this approach.
If you have a Chevy Volt, a Ford Energi, or a BMW i3, then yes, please do keep it plugged in while you're away. For these vehicles, leaving the car plugged in allows for the battery's thermal management system to function optimally. Tesla recommends that owners keep their cars plugged in but set for 50 percent charge.

If the battery died completely, then no. The battery is crucial for running the car even when the engine is on. Otherwise you couldn't rely on the series parallel mode and would not be able to use any power above the 80 up engine. If the battery degraded to like 10% of normal capacity, then yes.
My Chevy Volt is now ready to do double duty as an emergency generator. At its core the Volt is a phenomenal gas-powered generator with a huge battery buffer. It is far more advanced, higher quality, quieter, cleaner and far more fuel efficient than any store bought generator. All you need is a DC-to-AC Power inverter.
Back in the 1990s, GM killed the electric car. Now, the Volt is sentenced to death in March 2019 as part of GM's massive restructuring that will cut more than 14,000 salaried staff and factory workers and close seven factories worldwide by the end of next year.
2016 Chevrolet Volt: Well-Suited for Longer Road Trips. Rather than take a flight up to California's wine country for a work trip, I opted to drive the 425 or so miles each way. The Volt is a great road trip car. It's quiet and has just as much power as the typical family sedan.

If you need to use an extension cord, don't go over 25 feet 12 gauge or 50 feet 10 gauge and be sure it's a high quality cord that is kept out of the elements when not in use. The Volt EVSE would require a 12 gauge - 3 wire cord to work.
About Face: Chevy Volt Can Run On Regular Gas. GM's much-ballyhooed plug-in hybrid, which can go 40 miles on electricity only, would apparently require premium gasoline to power its battery generator. Premium fuel carries a premium price, usually 20-30 cents more per gallon. So much for saving money on gas.
