August can be pretty dang toasty, often breaking 100F during the day. This is also monsoon season, so Summer nights can indeed be muggy and somewhat nasty. You might also consider a shorter stay in Zion and a night or two at Bryce National Park, which is at around 8,000 feet elevation and reasonably cool all summer.
To prepare for chilly mornings and scorching afternoons, it is best to bring clothes that are suitable for both temperatures. Bring a light jacket and a pair of long pants, as well as plenty of shorts, short-sleeved shirts, tank tops and other light clothing to help keep you cool during the day.
