Paradise Island is very safe. Most of the Island is owned by the Atlantis and there is pretty good security around. As with any area there are places to avoid, but if you are smart there really is not too much to worry about.
Atlantis has many value meals that are around $10 (burger, fries, soda), but if you vary from those meals, you can hit $20 quickly. same meal in parks at Disney is usually in the $10 range. Dinner is where you can get in trouble and there just aren't many fast-food/cheap otions.

No need for the walletThere are free things to do at Atlantis: catch a movie at the theater, admire marine life at the resort's lagoons and exhibits and waterslides at Aquaventure.

The pool is for adults only and it is a long walk to other things at Atlantis. But if don't mind walking it is a lot less crowded. If just my husband and I go back, I would stay at the Cove. I did not want to spend the money to go to Atlantis, but it was well worth the money.
The meal plan is not worth it. You have to buy it for all of the days of your stay. It does not include any lunches. It limits where and when you can eat, heck, it even limits (in some cases) what you can eat.
Atlantis on a budget - Family of 4 all inclusive with flight under $3000.
No problem bringing your own beer to the pools/beach at Atlantis as long as they are not in glass bottles. You can also bring alcohol as long as it is not in glass bottles.
Travelers not staying at the all-inclusive Atlantis resorts can still visit the Aquaventure water parks in Dubai and the Bahamas with a day pass. However, guests in the Bahamas must be a guest of a partner hotel to buy a ticket.

Resorts tend to filter and chlorinate tap water more aggressively than other establishments; elsewhere, bottled water is available at stores and supermarkets, and tastes better than that from a tap.
