Richmond is generally considered to be “posh” and is one of the most affluent areas of London. It has some of the most expensive real-estate of the boroughs on the outskirts of London and you'll often rub shoulders with celebrities and millionaires in the supermarkets here.
I live in the borough of Richmond upon Thames rather than Richmond itself, although I have lived there. Richmond, the town and borough are relatively affluent areas although there are some less affluent areas within both in a similar way to the rest of london.
The earliest burghs, founded by 1124, were Berwick and Roxburgh. However, by 1130, David had established burghs in Gaelic areas: Stirling, Dunfermline, Perth and Scone, as well as Edinburgh.
For many years Richmond has been known as “London's Arcadia” with celebrities including David Attenborough, Jerry Hall, Richard E Grant, Ronnie Wood and Mick Jagger all choosing to reside there. There is over 20 miles of riverside in Richmond and is the only borough in London to span over the Thames.

You wouldn't expect to find homelessness and knife crime in the Royal Borough of Kingston-Upon-Thames. It is usually seen as a posh and affluent area, but amongst the swanky riverside terraces pockets of poverty also exist.

Kensington is one of the most affluent, posh and sophisticated areas of central London. It is a district of West London, within the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. It is an elegant, but densely populated area which is home to the well-known museum district of South Kensington.
Kensington Palace Gardens has ranked as Britain's most expensive street. London's Kensington Palace Gardens, a tree-lined street flanked with stately stuccoed mansions and embassies, has been named Britain's most expensive street for the 12th consecutive year, according to a report Friday from Zoopla.
Proving that even the most affluent boroughs are not immune to high crime rates, Kensington and Chelsea has the 3rd highest crime rate in London with an average of 121 crimes per 1000 people as of 2015 – almost double the UK average.
Your odds of being a crime victim anywhere in New York City are relatively low, BUT, relatively speaking, Kensington is a very safe neighborhood. It's an exceptionally diverse neighborhood, ethnically, religiously and economically and really offers a rich experience of city living.
It comes as no surprise then that one of the world's most expensive streets is in London, and is home to royalty, A-listers, tycoons and politicians. Unsurprisingly the street is in Kensington, Kensington Palace Gardens to be exact, and runs right along the edge of Kensington Gardens.
