Features of menu driven interfaces include:
- they are easy to use as the user does not have to remember sets of commands.
- they are user friendly - you can often guess your way around the options.
Because of their simplicity, menu-driven interfaces are commonly used for walk-up-and-use systems, such as information kiosks and ATMs. Websites are also often designed with the same basic navigation principle, where navigation bars substitute for “menus”.
A good interface makes it easy for users to tell the computer what they want to do, for the computer to request information from the users, and for the computer to present understandable information. Clear communication between the user and the computer is the working premise of good UI design.
There are four prevalent types of user interface and each has a range of advantages and disadvantages:
- Command Line Interface.
- Menu-driven Interface.
- Graphical User Interface.
- Touchscreen Graphical User Interface.
In computing and telecommunications, a menu is a list of options or commands presented to the user of a computer or communications system. A menu may either be a system's entire user interface, or only part of a more complex one.
The natural-language interface gives rise to technology used for many different applications. Some of the main uses are: Dictation, is the most common use for automated speech recognition (ASR) systems today. This includes medical transcriptions, legal and business dictation, and general word processing.
Menu Driven Interface
This type of interface lets you interact with a computer or device by working your way through a series of screens or menus. Cashpoint machines (ATMs) are another good example of a menu driven interface. Menu driven interfaces can also be verbal rather than visual.Menu interfaces are also used when there is only a small range of options that the user can select. Microsoft Windows® has a text interface. It's known as the command prompt and has over 280 commands.
Interface features are the things that you can see, touch and feel – and experience. These are the things that deliver user experience because they are the bridge that gives you access to the functions of that product.
Sensor Interfaces. Sensor interface ICs enable a system to read out information from the input signal generated by complex sensors, providing a suitable output signal that is easy for a host system to display or process.
There are five main types of user interface: command line (cli) graphical user interface (GUI) menu driven (mdi) form based (fbi)
Menu planning is an important task because it saves time and money, promotes healthier choices, improves grocery shopping skills, and keeps meal times fresh with variety.
OBJECTIVES OF MENU PLANNING
- The menu must satisfy guest expectations.
- The menu must attain marketing objectives.
- The menu must help achieve quality objective.
- The menu must be cost effective.
- The menu must be accurate.
The four types of menus most commonly used are a la carte menus, static menus, du jour menus, and cycle menus.
Factors Affecting Menu Planning • Nutritional Adequacy • Age • Physical Activity • Economic considerations • Time, energy and considerations • Seasonal availability • Religion, region, tradition and cultural pattern • Likes and dislikes of individuals.
Manual systems are more prone to error eg on calculating VAT or an invoice value. B Many people would say that manual systems are easier to audit. Records in computer systems are less visible though specialist computer auditing techniques help. C Manual system errors are generally easier to correct.
A menu is a set of options presented to the user of a computer application to help the user find information or execute a program function. Menus are common in graphical user interfaces ( GUI s) such as Windows or the Mac OS . Menus are also employed in some speech recognition programs.
The four types of menus most commonly used are a la carte menus, static menus, du jour menus, and cycle menus.
Selective Menu
A menu that includes two or more food choices in each category such as appetizer, entrees, main courses, vegetables, salads, and desserts.Menu planning principles include balance, nutritional quality, aesthetics, and variety, including color, texture, flavors, shapes and sizes of food. The equipment and personnel available to produce and serve the menu are also important considerations in planning the menu.
This provides many advantages to both end users and application developers. Among these advantages are: An easier to use interface enables users to learn the system quickly and use it efficiently. Consistency between UNIX platforms enables users to move from one computer to another with minimal difficulty.
Command line interface (CLI) is a text-based interface that is used to operate software and operating systems while allowing the user to respond to visual prompts by typing single commands into the interface and receiving a reply in the same way.
Forms Interface
This is a method of enabling you to interact with an application. The form normally provides limited choices as to the use. A form interface can also be used to enter data into a system, for example a database system will usually allow you to create a form to enter data into tables. When referring to software, an interface is a program that allows a user to interact computers in person or over a network. An interface may also refer to controls used in a program that allow the user to interact with the program. One of the best examples of an interface is a GUI (Graphical User Interface).
Designing the visual composition and temporal behavior of a GUI is an important part of software application programming in the area of human–computer interaction. Its goal is to enhance the efficiency and ease of use for the underlying logical design of a stored program, a design discipline named usability.
Features of a command-line interface
An advantage of command driven programs is that they do not need the memory and processing power of the latest computer and will often run on lower spec machines. Command driven programs do not need to run in Windows .
