Tourists have a tendency to let their guard down and do some really stupid things on vacation that they wouldn't do at home, thus the "safety tips".
Sanibel Island is a bit more low-key than Fort Myers Beach and perfect for those seeking a slightly less scheduled vacation. The main attraction on Sanibel Island is, of course, it's white sand beaches, but more than just that, shelling is a popular pastime.

The Lyft ridesharing service has confirmed that, effective Saturday, July 1, it will serve both RSW and Page Field, the general aviation airport in Fort Myers. A similar announcement from Uber about launching Saturday service was expected.

To Geshel's surprise, there were two alligators around 7 feet in length outside her Pelican Preserve home in Fort Myers. Geshel said one of the alligator's snouts was on the glass window and pinned on the door. Geshel said the alligators were on her property for about 20 minutes before they took off.

In Southwest Florida over the past week, K. brevis was observed at background to high concentrations in and offshore of Lee County, and background to medium concentrations in and offshore of Collier County.

The pier extends out into the Gulf of Mexico and provides a covered bait-and-tackle/gift shop for fishing enthusiasts and souvenir hunters alike. In a small area, Times Square covers it all for Fort Myers Beach. A boardwalk in the middle of the state? You can walk along the promenade or rent a four- or six-person bike.
Alcohol is not allowed on the beach, other than in restaurant property located on the beach. Driving on the beach is not allowed. Dogs are allowed on the beach, but must be kept on leash and picked up after.
Background on our islands: On Sanibel and Captiva, there have only been eight documented incidents between humans and sharks on Sanibel, none of which were fatal. In half of those instances, the shark was stepped on or bumped into accidentally. On Captiva, there has never been a documented shark incident.
True, they're both quiet spots with great shorelines, but there are a few differences. Here's a cheat sheet: Sanibel has better shells on its beaches, but Captiva's dining is more eclectic. Stay a few extra minutes for one of the romantic sunsets along Captiva Beach.
We love Sanibel precisely for the vegetation as well as the abundant wild life. Remember, Sanibel Island is 2/3 a nature preserve. Marco has its advantage in finer sand on the beach, but for those who love to collect shells, the beaches on Sanibel can be a treasure chest.
Don't expect to find pure white sand beaches on Sanibel. The whole island is basically made of seashells. There are plenty of places where you can find sand with less shells, but the sand is still mixed with broken shell bits. We love it that way and the shells are part of the island's charm.
