Baby mice are very vulnerable when left to fend for themselves. It depends just how young they are, but chances are they will not survive without their mom's – but there are some things you can do to help. If the mice have just been born they will need some care within hours to stay alive, so you need to act quickly.

How to catch mice
- Use decent, metal mousetraps, not cheap wooden ones.
- Peanut butter is an often-recommended bait, but I think Jelly Babies are better.
- Tie the traps to something solid with some string.
- Keep checking the traps.
- Buy some disposable plastic gloves to handle traps and dead mice with.
The rodents are primarily nut and seed eaters, so the mouse trap bait they are most strongly attracted to is peanut butter or hazelnut spread. Their hunger for calories also entices them to try chocolate.
Evaporated milk has been used successfully to raise mice. Plain cow's milk shouldn't be used as it doesn't support adequate growth of orphan rats. A fine tipped paint brush is another option to use to feed baby mice. There is now a Goat's Milk Esbilac formula.
Hydration. Severely dehydrated mice will be weak and often will look paralyzed in their rear legs. These mice may also have trouble gripping the cage bars with their forefeet. Other symptoms of severe dehydration include sunken or recessed eyes and fuzzy facial fur, which results due to piloerection.
