About flattening
If your document or artwork containstransparency, to be output it usually needs to undergo aprocess called flattening. Flattening dividestransparent artwork into vector-based areas and rasterizedareas. Transparent objects are flattened according tothe settings in the selected flattener preset. If you have Adobe Acrobat Pro, you can use theflatten function that is built into Preflight: Bring up thePreflight tool (Edit>Preflight), then use the "Flattenannotations and field" in the "PDF Fixups" category: Onceselected, just click on the "Analyze and fix" button and yourdocument is flattened.
In between the convolutional layer and the fullyconnected layer, there is a 'Flatten' layer.Flattening transforms a two-dimensional matrix of featuresinto a vector that can be fed into a fully connected neural networkclassifier.

Flatten Image. The Flatten Image commandmerges all of the layers of the image into a single layerwith no alpha channel. After the image is flattened,it has the same appearance it had before. The difference is thatall of the image contents are in a single layer withouttransparency.
If you have hidden layers, they will stay intactwith Merge Visible but will get discarded when usingFlatten Image. Another difference is that if youdon't have a background layer then Flatten Image willconvert the layer it generates into a backgroundlayer while Merge Visible will leave it as a normallayer.
To flatten a Photoshop CS6 image, follow thesesteps:
- Ensure that all the layers you want to retain are visible.Photoshop CS6 discards all hidden layers.
- Choose Layer→Flatten Image or select Flatten Image fromthe Layers panel menu.
A .PSD file is a layered image file usedin Adobe PhotoShop. PSD, which stands for PhotoshopDocument, is the default format that Photoshop uses for savingdata. PSD is a proprietary file that allows the userto work with the images' individual layers even after thefile has been saved.

Choose the Layers menu from the top menu bar and selectFlatten Image. Resave the image as a .jpg, .gif orpng.Shift-Click or Ctrl/Cmd-Click on all the layersyou want merged to highlight multiples. Then right-click on one ofthe layers and select "Merge Layers" tocombine them all. They layers will merge intothe top-most layer, and keep that name.
Most images cannot be unflattened inPhotoshop. Once the layers have been merged, you cannotunflatten it. However, if you still have the document open, you can undo steps back to the original image. Ifyour layers are merged into a Smart Object, then you're in luckbecause you can unflatten those.
Photoshop merges those layers onto a new layerwhile leaving your original layers intact. You can alsomerge layers by following these steps: Position the layer orlayer groups that you want to merge adjacent to each otherin the Layers panel. Merge Down merges your selectedlayer with the layer directly below it.
Stamp multiple layers or linked layers
- Turn visibility on for the layers you want to merge.
- Press Shift+Ctrl+Alt+E (Windows) or Shift+Command+Option+E (MacOS). Photoshop creates a new layer containing the mergedcontent.
