If the photo you upload is not in one of Instagram's supported aspect ratios, it will be cropped automatically. As for the image quality, Instagram does not change the picture resolution if the photo has a width from 320 to 1,080 pixels, as long as the file is in one of the supported aspect ratios.
However, if you still get zoomed in Instagram posts and stories, you likely don't have the latest version of the app. Therefore, go straight to Google Play Store if you have an Android phone and Apple Store if you're using an iPhone. That should fix your problem.
Simply click on the “Resize” icon in the top right corner of the video. Now hold and drag the edges of the video to scale it and reposition it by simply holding and dragging it. Once done, click on the green button that says “Apply” to save the changes made.
To post multiple different photos or videos with different sizes on Instagram, you need to use a tool to resize them first. To avoid cropping out content, add a white background to make each photo or video in to a square. Then, you can post the album without cropping out or changing the size of your image.
Instagram is making a huge change to the way photos and videos are posted on the platform: they no longer have to be square. That means you can now share photos and videos in their full unadulterated glory, whether in landscape or portrait format.
Common Printing Aspect RatiosSome popular print sizes for the 3:4 ratio includes 30 x 40 inches and 18 x 24 inches. 16 x 20 inches is the most popular print size for a 4:5 aspect ratio. There are some other popular print aspect ratios like 8.5 x 11 inches and 11 x 17 inches.
If you want a 16:9 aspect ratio like the right image above, you will need to adjust the crop.
- Tap the Crop button to change to 16:9.
- Tap the blue arrow.
- Add a filter if you'd like, change the cover image, and/or mute the video.
- Tap the blue arrow.
- Add a caption, hashtag, location, or send as a Direct message.
Now, the best Instagram video dimensions are 1080px by 1920px. In other words, this means that your Instagram video should be 1080 pixels wide and 1920 pixels tall.
1920 pixels x 1080 pixels at 72 or 96 ppi is perfect. My all-purpose go-to size for web: 2048 pixels (long edge) at 96 ppi.
How to resize an image on Windows using the Photos app

The app is free to download and we do offer basic editing features with a free account. This includes a handful of filters, all of our editing adjustments, and a handful of fonts + text styles. The premium upgrade will give you full access to ALL of our editing tools and filters, including our beauty tools section.
Size your photos right.Whenever you do have to, try not to use the “InstaSize” apps – the ones solely created for adding borders to your picture. Almost every one I've seen so far decreases the quality of the picture itself when exporting it, and you want to retain the quality it already has from your phone's camera.
What Is Instasize? Instasize is an app available for iOS and Android that can help you reach your visual branding goals. Instasize offers a three-day free trial and a paid version of the app. When using Instasize for free, you'll have access to original filters, color editing tools, and video editing capabilities.
Like the description says: “To preserve aspect ratio just tap on the chain icon between width and height input fields.” If you activate the chain icon and its color is blue, than the app will actually resize the image. You can not resize an image to what ever size you want without cropping or stretch/shrink.

Images with a white borderThey are perhaps the strongest indicator to people who land on your profile that you are a photographer (amateur or pro) and not just someone posting his snaps. As an artist you understand the importance of the ratio of an image, as well as the need for empty space around it.
On your phone, your Instagram profile photo size is 110 x 110 pixels. On desktop, however, it's slightly bigger, so your best bet is to use a better-quality image for best results.
- Upload Your Photo to the Image Editor.
- Adjust, Crop, and Resize the Photo.
- Hit Publish and Download.
Resize an image without croppingIf cropping isn't what you're looking for, and you want the full image to be smaller or larger, head to Resize in the Edits tab. Use the checkbox to switch between pixels and percentages and play with your image's proportions.
Tap Library and choose a photo from your Camera Roll. Tap on the square icon at the bottom of the screen. Tap on the white square to choose a white border for your Instagram photo. Move the slider at the bottom of the screen to choose how wide you want your border to be.
However, Instagram has long evolved from that initial model and now allows you to upload your portrait as well as landscape images. For Instagram posts, you can choose from three different aspect ratios—1:1 (square), 1.91:1 (landscape), and 4:5 (portrait).
