Following five tasks are mainly prohibited during Panchak:
- Grass, wood and oil should not be gathered during Ghanistha constellation.
- Travelling toward South should be prohibited, as it is considered the direction of Yam.
- Construction of terrace is prohibited during Revati constellation.
Garuda Purana says that "Person who dies during Panchak does not get peace and it is not good for the family left behind." There is a prevalent belief that if one performs any important task during these Nakshatras one may end up doing it five times.

During this period, it is advised not to commence any kind of auspicious work or event as it will not produce you the desire results. Events like marriage, mundan, etc. are avoided during Panchak Kaal. In astrological terms, Panchak Yoga or Kaal is the period of five days that occurs every month of the Hindu calendar.

Most of the tasks are done in this duration. Out of these five constellations, Dhanishtha and Shatbhishare are termed as movable constellations. Therefore, travelling and tourism, entertainment, marketing, purchasing clothes and jewellery is considered auspicious.
If a person dies during Panchak, a Shanti Pooja is performed for the departed soul as well as for the family left behind. Following five activities are completely prohibited during Panchak.
Panchak means group of 'Five' (Panch). Dhanishtha (Last two parts), Shatbhisha, Purvabhadrapada, Utrabhadrapada and Revati are five Nakshatras principally four and a half Nakshatras are known as a Panchak. In other words the duration of placement of Moon in Aquarius or Pisces is known as Panchak.
