When printing envelopes, Word needs to be concerned with where that relatively small piece of paper (the envelope) is located in the feed tray and what its orientation is. If Word guesses incorrectly, then the envelope may not print correctly, if at all.
How to address an envelope

The return address goes on the back flap of your invitation envelope and the front side of your response envelopes. Formally, the return address should be handwritten, but it is acceptable today for this to be printed, to use a mailing label, or a return address stamp.
You can place the delivery address on the front or the back of the mailpiece, but it must be on the same side as the postage. The address may be parallel or perpendicular to the top edge, but not upside-down as read in relation to the top edge. A perpendicular address can face to the left or the right.
When you mail large envelopes with the short ends on the top and bottom, the post office prefers the delivery address to be near the top of the envelope. The return address stays in the upper left corner. Start the delivery address at least 1 inch to the right and 1 inch below the return address.
Everything should be in capital letters.Whatever is written on the face of the envelope should be written in all capitals. While most mail is sent and carried without capitalized letters, it's preferred for every line of the address to be capitalized.
Print or type your address in the upper-left corner on the front of the envelope. Print or type clearly the delivery address parallel to the longest side of the envelope.
