Christianity is the majority religion in Wales. From 1534 until 1920 the established church was the Church of England, but this was disestablished in Wales in 1920, becoming the still Anglican but self-governing Church in Wales. Wales also has a strong tradition of nonconformism and Methodism.
The English words "Wales" and "Welsh" derive from the same Old English root (singular Wealh, plural Wēalas), a descendant of Proto-Germanic *Walhaz, which was itself derived from the name of the Gaulish people known to the Romans as Volcae and which came to refer indiscriminately to inhabitants of the Western Roman
The most telling sign of a Welsh person is their short, sometimes stocky build and their Welsh accent! I think there is a Welsh 'look'. For men it would be best described as dark and rugged, with strong, heavy features - Tom Jones is a great example. For women, dark and 'pert', though that's more difficult to define.
Dishes such as cawl, Welsh rarebit, laverbread, Welsh cakes, bara brith (literally "speckled bread") or the Glamorgan sausage have all been regarded as symbols of Welsh food. Cawl, pronounced in a similar way to the English word "cowl", can be regarded as Wales' national dish.
Wales is a country in Great Britain that has a distinctive culture, including its own language, customs, politics, holidays and music. Wales is primarily represented by the symbol of the red Welsh Dragon, but other national emblems include the leek and the daffodil.
For several living in Wales or Cornwall it happens “ipso jure” or automatically by the law. If you are a Briton by descent on your maternal or paternal side, and are currently domiciled in Wales or Cornwall then you are entitled to be a Welsh citizen, or a citizen in the Kingdom of Britons.
