Park Pilot, or Park Distance Control, is a safety feature designed to help make parking easier. Park Pilot will send out both visual and audible alerts when you are close to an object. The visual alert will appear on your Volkswagen's touchscreen display.
The driver information center (DIC) displays SERVICE PARK ASSIST when the object alarm module detects a malfunction in the object detection system and sends a request to the DIC for display of the message. The DIC also displays SERVICE PARK ASSIST when there is a loss of communication with the object alarm module.
This can be done by pressing the rear park aid disable button located next to the radio. I also found that messages in the DIC that don't require immediate action can be cleared by pressing the trip odometer reset stem, or the set/reset button (manual states it should be a check?).
Generally, if the parking assist light is illuminated in green on your dash, it indicates that the system is active and assessing the road around you. If the Parking Assist symbol is flashing or yellow in color, or both, the system has detected an issue and will be disabled temporarily.

Ford's Active Park Assist feature helps handle parallel parking. Once the system locates a suitable parking space, it takes on the task of steering the vehicle into place. The system does the rest, managing steering, shifting, braking and accelerating.
