A smooth bore hose will lose less suction than one with internal corrugations. However, in using our vacuums in particular we have found that although adding length will slightly reduce suction per amount added. Thus, once you have added three of those hoses, or around 36′ of hose, you will be down 21% on suction.
Measuring the ideal length for your hose is a matter of calculating the distance of the two furthest points in your swimming pool. So, for example; If your skimmer is located 30 feet from the furthest corner, and your pool has a depth of 5 feet, you will need a 35-foot-long vacuum hose.
The universal adapter tube in this kit is for Shark Vacuum Cleaners, and has a 1-7/16" (36.5mm) inner diameter. The outer diameter is 1-11/16" (42.9mm). This size will fit most Shark Vacuums (like the Lift-Away), but NOT EVERY SHARK VACUUM HAS THE SAME SIZE HOSES (like the Rocket).
Chances are you may not have thought a Shop-Vac® Wet Dry Vacuum could take on your water-filled basement, but the good news is, it can. All you need to do is attach one end of your garden hose to the pump vacuum, and leave the other end where you'd like the water to go.
Hose sizes are designated based on the inner diameter of the hose, which is the measurement of the straight distance between the two furthest points on the inner surface of the tube. Virtually all hoses made globally are made on inch sizes even if given a metric size designation.
To determine the size of your connector measure its inside diameter. Do this by laying a tape measure over the mouth of the connector and reading the measurement from the inside wall of one side of the connector to the opposite inside wall. Don't measure to the outside of the wall, that diameter is larger.
Simply run the tape measure from the top of your hose's opening to the bottom and record its diameter. When measuring, the number should refer to the internal diameter, as this is size that needs to match the garden hose to a fitting nozzle or faucet.
How do you measure the diameter of a shower hose? This is the diameter of the inside of the shower hose tube. Just measure your hose internal diameter and choose the right size to match your existing hose. On every product we tell you the bore size, so its impossible to get it wrong.
Central vacuum PVC pipeIt is also often referred to by its “schedule†For example Schedule 40 or Schedule 80).
SCHEDULE 20 PVC PIPEThis is our lowest strength PVC pipe, and is most commonly used in gravity fed septic systems, drainage, and stormwater projects.
Generally it has an inside dimension (ID) of slightly greater than 2" (50 mm) and is available in 10 foot or 20 foot (3-7 meter) sections.
