TV resolutions of 480i or 480p are considered standard definition. In these resolutions, the pixels are arranged 640 x 480. With this minimal number of pixels, images are less defined and appear “pixelated” (meaning you can see the individual pixels) the closer you get to the TV.

Make sure your box is set up for 1080I, to do this turn the box off then hit the menu button on the remote. It will bring you to the user settings screen. The HDMI/YPBPR output should say 1080I, also make sure your 4:3 override is set to 480p. If your using your hdmi output then go to the additional HDMI settings.
As their names imply, 4K UHD has a considerably higher resolution than 1080P HD video. 4K resolution is exactly 3840 x 2160 pixels, whilst 1080P consists of 1920 x 1080 pixels. This massive difference brings about some important advantages for 4K when one compares it to the quality of a 1080P video.
HDTV, standing for high-definition television, is a new means of television broadcasting and the machines that take advantage of it. HDTV broadcasts video digitally (in contrast to the common analog formats PAL, NTSC, and SECAM) and of higher 720 pixels or 1080 pixels resolution.
LED TV vs. CRT Power. As technology improves, old cathode ray tube, or CRT, televisions give way to lighter weight, higher definition flat screen versions. These screens also use less power than a CRT, making them a more environmentally friendly option. Old CRTs can be expensive and difficult to dispose of.
4K, also known as Ultra HD, refers to a TV resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels. That's four times as many pixels than in a full HD TV, a total of about 8.3 million pixels. Having so many pixels means a higher pixel density, and you should have a clearer, better defined picture.
Standard definition television ("NTSC") is 480i, a far cry from HDTV's 720p and 1080i. The "i" stands for interlaced. This means that every 60th of a second, half the image is shown. DVDs are technically 480i, even though all modern players can output these as 480p or higher.
1080i was once the standard in HDTVs but no more. Its quality is not much better than 720p TVs. 1080p has a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels, and it is a progressive scan display rather than interlaced.
Samsung 4K TVs 2016/2017
- Press the Settings button on your TV's remote.
- Select Picture.
- Scroll all the way down to Expert Settings or Picture Options.
- Navigate to the HDMI UHD Color section. Each of the available HDMI ports should now be listed on-screen.
- Turn on HDMI UHD Color for the ports of your choosing.
1080p and 1080i systems are both HD certified and therefore capable of displaying 1920 x 1080 pixel images. The difference between these two resolutions, however, is in the way the images are displayed. 1080i uses an interlaced display, whereas 1080p features progressive scan display.
On other Samsung models, press the remote's "Menu" button and use the volume buttons to navigate to the "Picture" menu. Choose "Picture Size" by pressing the "Channel Down" button and then select the appropriate size to change the screen's resolution.
LG TVs 4K TVs
- Press the Settings button.
- Scroll down to All Settings.
- Navigate to the General tab.
- Select HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color. Each of the available HDMI ports should now be listed on the screen.
- Enable the feature on the ports of your choosing.
All of the major streaming services stream in 1080p by default. All major cable providers do either 1080i or 720p. Even if game consoles support 4K, most games don't. A 1080p TV is not nearly as outdated as one might think.
Current resolutions broadcast by DIRECTV are 480i, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p/24 Hz for some PPV.

720p, also known as HD (high definition), is a display resolution measuring 1280 x 920 pixels. You'll sometimes see displays with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 resolution also called HD, but this is more officially referred to as 1080p or Full HD (FHD).

OLED stands for organic light emitting diode. It's the evolution of the traditional LED TVs which use light-emitting diodes to light up your display. OLED TVs have the ability to turn each pixel on and off resulting in really deep blacks.
OLED is also lighter, thinner, uses less energy, offers the best viewing angle by far, and, though still a little more expensive, has come down in price considerably. OLED is the superior TV technology today.
Power consumption. OLED panels are extremely thin and require no backlight. As such, OLED TV's tend to be lighter in weight than QLED TVs and thinner. They also require less power, making them more efficient.

TV types and jargon explained: LCD, LED LCD, OLED. Aside from projection sets, there are basically only two types of TVs on the market: LCD and OLED. Unless you have a lot of disposable income, you'll probably be buying an LCD TV. The lion's share of televisions today are LED LCD.
