At other times, the TV has a solid performance, but not better than a very good 1080p TV. 1) Samsung NU8000 (tie) – Sony was by far the best in 4K upscaling last year, but Samsung has narrowed the gap to almost a non-issue this year. Image edges are not as crisp as the Sony or Samsung.
In fact, Samsung, Panasonic, LG and Sony can be considered as the top tier television manufacturers in the modern world. If you purchase a television that belongs to these brands, you will get the opportunity to keep it for years and years.
What are the best TV brands?
- Samsung: Incredibly popular still, with beautiful high-quality TVs. Credit: Reviewed / Lee Neikirk.
- Sony: Name recognition and phenomenal picture quality. Credit: Reviewed / Michael Desjardin.
- LG: OLED TVs are superior, but prices are still fairly high.
- Vizio: Still makes some of the best TVs for the money.
Sony. Sony's TVs deliver some of the best picture and sound available, with impeccable OLED sets and superb LCD TVs. However, Sony TVs are consistently the most expensive on the market, and clunky remotes and complex menus are less than ideal, even if Sony is the best TV brand for unadulterated picture and sound.
Samsung on Monday announced plans to acquire all of Sony's shares in S-LCD, a joint venture that manufactures LCD screens. Samsung will pay Sony $934 million for the assets. Under the terms of the deal, Samsung and Sony entered into a new strategic agreement that aims to increase the competitiveness of both companies.
Samsung, in general, makes very good TVs. Their range has somewhat crept up in price over time, but most people should still find a TV that suits their needs within it. Their smart features aren't the best out there, but they are still quite good, too. They are usually quite versatile and fit most uses.

LG. Whether it's a stunning OLED TV or one of the more affordable NanoCell models, LG's TVs are top-notch. Granted, OLED is sometimes dimmer than comparable LCD-based TVs, and LG's own NanoCell TVs have some flaws, but LG is easily the best TV brand for OLED and is a great choice for any smart TV.
Samsung Q9 series (2018)
If you have a really big TV budget and don't want an OLED for some reason, the Q9 is the next-best thing. It justifies its sky-high price with scads of features and innovative design, and its image quality is the best of any LCD we've tested. In part, that's because LED TVs are available in both 1080p HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) and 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160 pixels), while OLED is 4K only. OLED TVs also deliver picture quality that's far superior to typical LED models. Only the very best LED TVs produce a picture that comes close to OLED.
Today Sony produces OLED TVs - using panels produced by LG Display.

You'll see that, on average, Sony TVs are expensive, in part because the company has stopped making lower-end sets. The takeaway for shoppers is that a premium set from Sony might not be more expensive than a premium set from a competitor—the company just doesn't compete in lower performance tiers.
