What do NFL players do in the offseason?

NFL regular season. The National Football League (NFL) regular season begins on the weekend following the first Monday of September (i.e, the weekend following the Labor Day holiday) and ends in December or early January. It consists of 256 games, where each team (32 total) plays 16 games during a 17-week period.
The NFL's scheduling formula ensures that all teams will play every team from every division in the other conference once every four years. The 16 teams in each conference are split into the East, North, South and West divisions; every division has four teams.

American football is normally played in cooler months of fall and winter because of the equipment worn by the players for their protection. The shoulder pads are heavy and trap heat. The helmet traps heat from the human head, while the hip, knee, and elbow pads also trap heat.

Every team plays one game against each of the four teams from a division in the other conference once per season — two games at home and two on the road.
